Gentle reminder that everything OpenAI has said in general, and everything from Murati in particular, has been a mix of uncut bullshit and bullshit with a technobabble candy coating. Even pretending there is a point to what she is saying is simply buying into, and furthering, their hype cycle.
OpenAI CTO Mira Murati: “Some creative jobs maybe will go away, but maybe they shouldn't have been there in the first place if the content that comes out of it is not very high quality.”

Generative AI is almost completely worthless in a commercial art environment. It cannot do what any current commercial artist can do, and no matter how good you are at prompting, you will fail to produce anything usable. Every time. One word: decomposbility.

Generative AI only knows how to produce the final output. Be it a picture, a video, a song, etc. That's all you need right? Nope. Even if it's absolutely perfect you still need the components that go into it to make it useful. Music is the easiest to understand where it falls over: No remixes.

You get an AI song for a commercial. Great. Let's say you want to pull out the vocal track and use the music for backing. There is no vocal track. All it knows how to make is the final mixdown. No stems, no way to change instrumentation or tuning or arrangement. This is worthless.

Let's pretend Sora's videos weren't trash (they really really are if you bother to look). You can't use them for anything. They give you .mp4, not a Blender project you can modify and change them to make it fit for purpose. Generative AI is all or nothing and it's always going to be nothing.

The only value this really offers, and probably ever will for the foreseeable future, is that someone like me (who can't draw for shit) could use it to crank out some images I could then take to an actual artist and say "Something like this, but good" and save some time in the early stages of work.

Every artist: my image uses layers this dogshit: fuck layers, all my homies hate layers and have 13 fingers

This was a problem when they tried to use GenAI for doing matte painting for a movie. "This is good, but I want these trees gone, those further apart, and the lighting needs to simulate later in the afternoon." "Lol, no. We can't do any of that. Here is a completely new image." "You're fired."

It was a genuinely neat party trick, something new, a step forward, but it is a damn party trick with a huge hype cycle attached. If I had some kind of expert engine product, I would definitely be touting it's AI capabilities right now.
