OpenAI CTO Mira Murati: “Some creative jobs maybe will go away, but maybe they shouldn't have been there in the first place if the content that comes out of it is not very high quality.”
Roundup: OpenAI says some artistic jobs shouldn’t existdisconnect.blog Read to the end for a good overview of failing social media platforms

I can think of other jobs that I'd like to go away. Like, any job at Open AI

Gotta give props to the creative that selected that shot of Mira Murati to publish.

Such sexist bs. I’m aware of the ip theft and other harms and potential ones from ai companies. Mira Murati said an awful thing. That’s no license to shred her completely and to comment on her looks. Men have wide margins, women narrow re acceptable looks. There’s always a thirst to shred women here
Avatar
I didn't mean to be sexist. Anybody who is on video a lot can be caught with a weird (micro)expression on their face, woman or man. It was a choice by somebody to use that image.
Avatar
Women get remarks like this approximately 10,000 x more frequently than men do.
Avatar
Or maybe that’s just her face at that angle
Avatar
No I don't think it's her face at that angle, I think it is a microexpression, which can be weird, and which somebody CLEARLY CHOSE TO USE.
Avatar
I get what you're trying to say, but it's sexist Saying you didn't mean to be sexist doesn't transform a sexist remark into a non-sexist remark Women have to deal with the judgemental stare of others, but especially men, constantly. Don't perpetrate this
Avatar
Yes, the fact that she is a moral black hole is far more significant.

Trump’s followers are often virulently misogynistic and feel taking down their enemies is a license for that. Let’s be better.
Avatar
Part of the problem is that women are far more susceptible to visual attacks because of the misogynistic role that they have been assigned. People have been choosing the most repulsive shots of Trump for years now and no one cares. Men don't have to be attractive to be attractive.
Avatar
Media loves choosing terrible photos of women

Spoken like someone incapable of creating anything & eager to punish those who can…after stealing all their ideas
Avatar
These people literally despise human life
Avatar
imagine saying this about others when the content you have produced is chat gpt.

Not the main point, but the industrial strength metonymy is surreal: 'content', that may be 'high quality', 'comes out of' 'jobs' which are just somehow 'there', but need not be. What is this content? whose quality? how did those jobs get there? does anyone do them? All the people have disappeared.
Avatar
I've argued for a while, mostly in the context of "car hits pedestrian", that we live in an age of metonymous weapons.
Avatar
Rhetoricians and journalism scholars have been examining such constructions from tech coverage to war reporting over the years :)
Avatar
If you happen to have a good technical reference to hand, I'd be most grateful. I've been looking for a deep dive on the pragmatics.
Avatar
I don't have any specific references; this was simply a foundational lens throughout my undergrad education in English + media studies: looking at passive constructions, framing, how headlines ascribe agency, etc.
Avatar
I think this is one of the main points: these folks desemanticize and instrumentalize "creativity," "intelligence," "reason," "content," "quality," etc.
Avatar
With apologies to James C Scott much of this is "Seeing Like an MBA" which is dumb but I don't really mind. Much worse is the total lack of curiosity about what is a whole political economy of arts people, education, training, institutions, events & objects. It's a dumb parasite that kills the host.
Avatar
It's amazing how different a connotation you can give to the same ideas when you actually value art. jobs will go away > artists will lose their livelihood low-quality content > art that does not appeal to Big Tech
Avatar
Sounds like she's echoing what Daniel Ek said recently
Avatar
"Content costs zero to produce"
Avatar
Some of Mira Murati's teeth may go away when this two-by-four meets her face, but maybe they shouldn't have been there in the first place if the words that come out of her mouth are stuff like this.
Avatar
Chat-GPT can already produce this self serving BS. Replace her.

what if openai cto mira murati were loaded into a cannon and fired into the sun?
Avatar
That would be some very marketable content.
Avatar
Was she always a monster? How does a human being become this?
Avatar
They’re idiots. Useless idiots. They came out this way
Avatar
VC money tends to do that to people…
Avatar
Self awareness will be this clueless woman’s ring in hell.
Avatar
She’ll never get it. Does this mean she’s not fully human? It’s possible.

“Churning out avalanches of low-quality content is our job dammit” -CTO of low quality content generating machine.
Avatar
Avatar
Why does OpenAI have a CTO? Cant their AI do all the work for them? Maybe they shouldn’t have a CTO in the first place if their tech is as good as they say.
Avatar
What a vile sentiment. OpenAI will and must collapse.
Avatar
Does “low quality” here = “won’t make shitloads of money for corporations”?
Avatar
“Some of you little people shouldn’t even have jobs.”
Avatar
Maybe most C-suite jobs shouldn’t exist. Same reason
Avatar
I suspect OpenAI don’t like hobbies, struggling artists, or children with crayons? I also suspect they have no soul and are no fun at parties 👀

Ah yes, the creative arts, a field known for objective measurable aspects like quality.
