well that's not an auspicious start
and now, the Horror Watch (Supreme Court opinions) begins

Gorsuch literally wrote, in almost those exact same words, "In its majestic equality, the law forbids rich and poor alike to sleep under bridges, beg in the streets and steal loaves of bread."

With an extra dig at student protesters while he's at it!

Also, as a disabled persion with serious mobility challenges, Gorsuch can *fuck entirely off* with his "Those with physical disabilities report [encampments] can pose a special challenge for them, as they may lack the mobility to maneuver safely around the encampments."
Avatar
Like, sure, that's a problem. You know what would fix the problem? GIVING UNHOUSED PEOPLE SERVICES, MONEY, AND PRIVATE HOUSING THAT ISN'T AN UNSAFE SHELTER BED

oh fuck and here's Loper Bright *reading through fingers*

I particuarly like(*) the repetition of "a bare quorum of 6 justices" in an opinion that is issued by a bare quorum of 6 justices (* don't fucking like)

Needs reframing: “SCOTUS says your tax dollars will be used to house unhoused people, but in as expensive a way as possible!” (I know it is also a very cruel way. But they might like that.)
Avatar
that thing where able bodied people trot out “but disabled people” exclusively to poorly bolster their own fucked up arguments and never otherwise
Avatar
Oh fuck him sideways. When there's someone with clear mental health issues lurching through the middle of a busy intersection while screaming at people, my own mental health issues don't need that dude /imprisoned/, I need him to get /useful well-funded help/.
Avatar
I am thinking bitterly of the sententious claims various years back that anti-harassment policies at fan conventions were ableist because neurodivergent people just /couldn't help/ coming across as creepy or harassing to other attendees.
Avatar
It's up there with "oh, I'm not anti-Muslim, I just suddenly care a lot about the rights of women and queer folks in this /very specific/ area (and nowhere else)!" and, okay, you know this particular song already. Lots of verses but the chorus stays the same.

I hear that all the time from the comfortable in Portland.
Laurelhurst is a wealthy part of Portland that had a large homeless camp driven out by "neighbors" largely using "they're blocking the sidewalks for disabled people" The city fenced the block off, and this is the path they left open. The lack of bannisters is just *chef's kiss*
Avatar
Fun fact: shelters aren't covered by the Fair Housing Act, and will often turn away people with visible disabilities - particularly those using mobility aids - claiming they can't provide the necessary [unasked for] level of assistance. Gorsuch can fuck *ALL* the way off. Then fuck right off again.
Avatar
The law in question wasn't even narrowly tailored around obstruction to sidewalk access or anything of the sort!

hawaii used that bs about our occupy camp, then installed huge concrete planters, permanently, on the sidewalk where we had of much smaller info tables. it’s such a bunch of crap.

None of these fuckers ever comes crying when the hostile architectural choices cities make in order to punish the homeless cause access problems for the disabled.
