Heck, I might as well yank this out to ask. Anyone know of a church in the MSP area (and accessible by public transport) with non-vile politics that does this kind of thing in, I don't know, adult Sunday school sessions or the like? Or a Bible study group full of scholar-nerds? Similar?

I would really intensely enjoy a church that did deep-dive analysis of the texts in small groups, with reference to the original language(s)! Give me some nuanced historical context and discussion of cultural effects on our interpretation! Most... most of them do not, I think.

Everyone is rightfully excoriating this guy for ignoring the benefits of community and the ability to learn from people different than you, but he's also ignoring the many examples of political movements organizing on social media and the alt-right radicalization pipeline.

The very worst thing about social media, including this site and the Bad Site and every other site, is the illusion that by posting on it you’re accomplishing anything.

Just whispered "Thank you, beautiful" to a small desk fan, so I guess it's really summer.

You know, this is a fair point. I have been doing a lot of muting and blocking lately, most of it prompted by people making really bad-faith "so you hate waffles?" (but political!) readings of each other, but--god knows I'm vulnerable to doing the exact same thing when anxious-and-tired.

And I also want to encourage people to allow each other generous readings of what they say rather than assume the worst framing, I know we’re all exhausted and punchy right now but

This is complicated, because on the one hand I think it’s absolutely true that social media platforms are places where real community that creates real positive effects can be and often is created And there’s also a kind of person who really thinks Posting (note the proper noun) is Activism

It’s funny cause people tell me *all the time* how they’ve learned from me and found community through my posts and been uplifted and connected to others and gotten tools to recognize and fight hate and felt less alone in the world. But I guess fuck that right? I’m not accomplishing anything.
