It was wild witnessing this in my comments a few days back. I can't understand the reasoning.
The apparent strategy of Bluesky activists: 1. All the progressive Black columnists at the NYT quit their jobs 2. ??? 3. NYT trans coverage improves

If we who think certain institutions are broken simply leave them and refuse to engage within them, then we simply turn them over uncontested to those who don't think they are in fact broken.

Surviving a status quo is a necessary condition of getting the power to change it.
"At its core, the issue was, can you still do good work making money for the sausage factory when the sausage is made of people." Saw this argument re Jamelle Bouie and my response is: absolutely. If not, then there's no point in liberal justices on SCOTUS, or liberal reps in red states, etc 🧵

Someone DM'ed me and told me what happened. People can be so exhausting sometimes. Struggles for equality and liberation have always required a sense of practicality over a sense of perceived purity. Perspective.
What happened with Jamelle Bouie on here? And to be up front, I consider him a good friend and utterly reasonable person.

Senility vs fascism, a terrible choice, but should still be relatively clear.

Very happy that the English football team pulled off the semi-final win today. Spain is going to make for a tough final match though.

I don't know how many chess fans there are on here, but watching the weird mental happenings with former world champion Vladimir Kramnik has been sad. He's convinced everyone is cheating and only he can see it.

The English team is playing terribly, but beautiful goal by Bellingham. I hope England wins this game, but this is certainly not a tournament for them to be proud of.
The English positioning doesn't make sense. The players have no choice but to pass backwards. You can watch players being visibly frustrated that they have no passing options.

I remember a paper that tried to use this "data" to argue that almost half of Africans were intellectually disabled, and thus needed to be governed using less liberal means. Fortunately it was retracted after it was called out for its ridiculous racism.
Four years ago, Psychological Science published a paper which used a ludicrously poor quality dataset. That paper was retracted, partly in order to avoid “prolonging the use” of the data but the dataset still thrives in the academic literature. Read our article & 🧵 for examples
Journals that published Richard Lynn's racist 'research' articles should retract themwww.statnews.com Richard Lynn's work has been repeatedly condemned for using flawed methodology and deceptively collated data to support racism. It's past time to retract the studies.

Scientific racism was always an ideology in search of science rather than science driving beliefs.

A hard thing to get used as a technical person who ends up in management: having to accept delegating to people who take 1 week to do something you could do in a couple hours.

A disadvantage of per-hour pay is that it gives no incentive to be much more productive than your peers.

I'm going through the phase of my life where my politics are shifting, and I don't really know to where. I'm disillusioned with liberalism, but have no intention of joining the right. The left often seems more concerned about saying the right things than ever acting towards those things.

What a beautiful little chess puzzle. White to move with class in a winning position.

If you love "freedom," but don't care if it applies to everyone, what you actually love is "Privilege."

Checked in on the race science people on the old site. I definitely don't miss arguing with those guys. Still just the worst excuse making to justify their bigotry.

2.5 million people could die in Sudan by September due to food shortages if immediate action is not taken. Let that sink in. 2,500,000 men women and children will die of starvation.

And we would still find multiple think pieces screaming that it's discrimination against men.
Even in the cases where it was effectively implemented, DEI objectives were often things like "In the next 5 years, increase the representation of women from 23% to 27.5%"
