Searching online, I can only find references to the artist on this story of banning subversive maths diagrams - any #histsci or #histmath people know more?
So no joke: the dictatorship in 1970s Argentina once banned Venn diagrams. Because they could be seen as finding common ground between two (apparently) different groups, and if you’re a dictator, unity is a threat. There’s an artist whose work revolves around this!

No. We're not fucked. There's no giving up, because if we do THEN we're fucked. Don't just give the fuckers the win, now or ever. Fight for yourself, fight for the people you care about, fight for the people who will be even more fucked than you will be. Be pissed that you have to fight. But fight.
We're so fucked.

This looks fabulous! From the Yale Press page linked in quoted tweet: "In tracing the rise and deployment of archives in early modern British imperial rule, Asheesh Kapur Siddique uncovers the origins of our data-driven present."

If I don’t want to build a complicated new platform, a website that will be obsolete in 5 years, data sets that no one can use. How do we ethically use open/free platforms? 🗃️
Is bootstrap digital public humanities/history a thing? have people written about it? What are your fav projects that did a lot using simple tools, free platforms? I mean eg the blogs Notches and ManyHeadedMonster, or researchers using genealogy websites to connect with family historians. 🗃️

Shame Nick Robinson doesn't seem to have heard about this before interviewing Tony Blair on AI on Today R4
Newsletter: Goldman Sachs has called BS on Generative AI, and I believe that it's time that everybody follows suit - generative AI is unreliable, unsustainable, requires an entire rebuild of America's power grid, and is most decidedly not the future. www.wheresyoured.at/pop-culture/
Pop Culturewww.wheresyoured.at A week and a half ago, Goldman Sachs put out a 31-page-report (titled "Gen AI: Too Much Spend, Too Little Benefit?”) that includes some of the most damning literature on generative AI I've ever seen. ...

Still a huge number of seats to the far right, of course, even if the polls are right
Great news! (Anxiously: how good are French exit polls? I'm sure this kind of split is hard to get right)

JUST IN: Polls closed in France. Exit polls show surprise: —Left coalition (New Popular Front) projected first. (!) —Far-right (RN) has lost its bid to take power. Anti-RN front appears to have worked very well. —No bloc close to majority. Follow this 🧵 for results and more:
