also and I feel like I buried the lede here: it calls for the people who CREATE queer media to be imprisoned. That'd be people like me. Or any other queer creator you love. Any queen who's been on drag race. Chappel Roan. Janelle Monae. Anyone who's made a piece of queer media. Imprisoned.
Psst: Project 2025 is terrifying for a lot of reasons but also because on page 5 it calls for teachers and librarians who grant access to books that are maligned as pornography (which just means anything LGBTQ) to be registered as sex offenders. Pass it on.

I know folks think they're neat bc they tell you stuff you want to think abt yourself & where you fit in, but it's astrology. Do I have more in common w someone born in 1965, or my friends born in 1985? More in common with a rich gen Xer, or working class millennials? The answer isn't generational.
Kinda feel like if we're gonna do generations at all, they should be based on major socio-political events, not just neat little time periods. Like, populations and history don't really work like that, it's kind of a weird, colonialist-type mindset to insist that everything should be so orderly.
Avatar
At best generations as we know them popularly are marketing, you do the demographic work for them, they're hogwarts houses. At worst they're constructs that introduce strife between much more important classes and identities that we share.
Avatar
And the things "generations" tell us about ourselves are a very white, straight, middle-class narrative, because that's what we've decided to measure everything by. That's "normal." Everything is flattened. All the edges smoothed. A caricature only good for jokes, that shouldn't be taken seriously.

We track eras by the relative Rulers of Pop.

I mean, not gonna get into it, because I like you and no one should be subjected to my generation rants, 😆 but I don't think they're really that useful, at least, not the way they're formulated as pretty much a middle-class white thing that flattens a lot out.
Avatar
Oh shit! New Acolyte, time for me to get high so I can enjoy it, lol And yes, I kinda wish most of the tv shows had just been movies, tbh.
Avatar
Amazing! 😆 Yeah, one of my rant triggers is how ridiculous "generations" are.

To be fair, the start of Gen X being placed anywhere between 1961 & 1965 is quite contentious.

This, also it was set at 1961 by Strauss & Howe in the 90s, the OG generational weirdos.

Let's be clear, it did not choke me up. It made me cry. People are going to love this book. I mean, look at this page, this was a test page Rori did before there was even a script. Wuthering Heights
In personal comics news, I showed Gibson some chapters from Wuthering Heights last night, they're rough, but lettered & paneled. There's a really intense section & it choked him up even though he wrote it. I feel like, holy shit, I'm doing good work on this book. Can't wait for y'all to read it.

100%. And even a lot of the hate is built on perceived economic grievances directed at the people with -zero actual control over them. Conveniently. I feel a little Vulcan when I talk about it, but it always makes more sense to me to view it as a technology rather than purely emotional phenomenon.

The generative AI bubble is beginning to look a lot like crypto - specious hype, vague roadmaps accepted without criticism, an environmental disaster wrapped around the vague promises of innovation, and an unwillingness by many to call its bluff. wheresyoured.at/put-up-or-sh...

Yeah, especially with opentype fonts, the capabilities just don't compare when you know what other programs can do. I've been using adobe since the 90s D: I need to try Affinity when I have the time.

Everything thing Republicans have done since Dobbs is 100% predictable. What’s shocking is the lack of outrage. Have you even heard about this outrageous attempt to rig direct democracy over abortion rights in Arkansas? Biden should ask the DoJ to step up.

Since it's Ida's bday today & I love her, a little story about collective action. A few years ago (2018), I learned about a longstanding effort to complete a monument to honor Ida B Wells. For over a decade, her great-grandchildren & others had been trying to raise needed funds.

I can't do final lettering in Clip Studio, the interface just doesn't give me enough. I keep hoping they'll roll out a companion lettering program that has full capabilities.
