And if you're in a place where libraries are under attack spend a little bit of time and effort publicly supporting them if you are able. It really matters.
recently my friend was like "wow NYU's library is small" and I was like "yeah I guess when you have the entire NYPL system you don't need a big library"
"Small"? NYU's main library may seem like just a big empty atrium, but it's got 8 million books there and in other locations. Which takes nothing away from the mind-boggling extent of the NYPL, which I use every day even here in Tokyo.
Also, if you have any old books you no longer want or need, consider donating them to local libraries.
I'm sure everyone will be entranced by the doodles you made in the margins.
I fucking LOVE my library's ebook program. They get a lot of good sci-fi titles in. I can finish a book at 2am and have the next one checked out and on my phone by 2:02am. It's FANTASTIC.
Spending much of my time overseas, I'd be lost without my New York Public Library card which gives me digital access to a huge part of their collection and dozens of magazines. The best public cultural institution in New York.
