Once again, Teen Vogue and People Magazine doing the work that the Washington Post and NY Times refuses to do.
Vance is a Theil-backed bag of shit in a man suit. But Teen Vogue went ahead and did an explainer on all the reasons why. (And is it just me or does he look like a colorized Bela Lugosi character here?)
Every Gen Z Issue JD Vance Is Againstwww.teenvogue.com From guns, and climate change to abortion and LGBTQ rights, the Republican VP is being called “Anti-Gen Z.”

That’s right people, Black people only point out racism for the attention points. When I get 50 points I get a free McFlurry wherever the machine is working (if you harass them I will see it, plz don’t)

I finished the Portuguese course on Duolingo. I got to the end of that road. I wasn't expecting that and I don't know what to do now. (And no, I'm not even close to being fluent in Portuguese. You can only go so far with solo studying of any language.)

In an ideal world, there would be arts funding. There'd be grants and universal income for everyone to help artists art harder. That's not the real world. The arts are undervalued, they're trying to replace us with robots. We're struggling and a lot of people think that's just fine.

There is never any shame in using the library, and much benefit in doing so. They are the closest thing to an unmitigated social good that we have in these United States, which is why the hard right is gunning so fervently for them these days. A world without libraries and librarians is a poor one.
My book-buying budget is not what it once was, which is precisely why I’m using the library more. It also gives me the opportunity to read books that I’m not sure I want to add to the home library (not that there’s a lot of room to do that anyway).

Today has been kind of raggedy day, emotionally. What I *should* do is go to bed early and try to get a good night's sleep. What I *want* to do is stay up late watching comfort TV or reading a comfort book.

Here's exactly why this matters: the GOP knows that the country is quickly becoming more diverse. Democracy -- allowing more people to vote -- means that they are out of office. Being anti-democracy is a fancy way of saying you would like the return of John C. Calhoun.

Huge mistake not to have put this guy in cuffs after he participated in Jan 6.
Sen. Josh @HawleyMO: "Some will say now that I am calling America a Christian Nation. So I am. And some will say that I am advocating Christian Nationalism. And so I do." Christian nationalism is fascism and Nazism as politics-and hawley is a proud fascist.

This is a useful summary and assessment of the journalism issues at play, both the problems of the podcast and its strengths. At the end: "Let us not lose sight of the main news here: Neil Gaiman took advantage of two vulnerable young women sexually, and this is likely the tip of the iceberg."
I'm still catching up on the Gaiman allegations, but when I first heard of them, I thought about how every form of sexual abuse I've experienced has been within a consenting encounter or relationship. open.substack.com/pub/politics...

There was lead in EVERY tampon they tested. There was less lead in organic tampons, but those had higher concentrations of arsenic. Also fun: It's 2024. This is the first ever study testing metals in tampons. Great. 🙃 www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/tox... Study: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Still boggles my mind that, mere hours after your wife hires a live-in nanny, you walk in while she's bathing, strip naked, and insist on hopping in with her - and then willingly offer that information up because you think it's exonerating.
to gaiman’s credit he was very forthcoming with details about “consensually” hooking up with the nanny who was dependent on him for money and housing

My personal feeling is that in cases of sexual assault "I'm going to wait to see what else develops" is a fine, but if you loudly announce that what you're seeing is inadequate and not enough and should not be believed by anyone, that's not waiting to see what else develops.
