I was just thinking how doing T&S at reddit absolutely wrecked my brain and I'm still dealing with it nearly 10 years later. So, yeah, get help early and often.
Ouch. Sorry to hear that 😕 And Reddit has like… *some* actual moderation and visibility tools and mechanisms. Here it’s like trying to do T&S on that island from Lord of the Flies.
Tbf, we didn't have shit at that time. I was on community. There was no actual T&S team and just about everything was manually dealt with. I'm sure it's much better now 🙃
But yes, here is probably worse right now, being new and it's still unclear what tools are already in place for moderators- or it might be stated somewhere and I just haven't bothered to find it. I wish the team the best though!
yes, quite, anyone out of the pre-Musk twitter t&s team comes from one of the best teams in the industry. that said i'm just grateful they have someone in the position at all!
Plus there were those SCOTUS oral arguments yesterday which could be important to her primary business, whatever other behind the scenes business stuff, the usual 'family, cats, life, doctors,' stuff....
Hope the T&S team stays on top of the weird Nazi dogwhistles that are intentionally bizarre to make social media moderators look silly for banning them. Be willing to bite the bullet and ban Groypers. But we also have blocklists for that.
What is he going to do about the rampant glorification of suicide happening right now on this website? Kind of a rough situation to start his first week in, but here we are. It cannot be allowed to continue, they are going to get someone killed. Maybe a lot of people.
Or even: an unintentional bug that people have decided to keep… (the whole reason why this appeared is because they tried to make sure to hide replies made *after* the block, but accidentally made it hide all replies regardless of timestamp, and then it just stayed this way…)
