Forever drooling over the X68000. Instantly enamoured with the black model after seeing one on Bad Influence and the twin stacks. Just look at how sexy it still is. 🥵
name one thing from your childhood you never had that you still want mine: a turbografx 16 with all those Nick Arcade games

Yeah! It feels halfway between EGA and VGA.

As part of the hype train for Episode I and riding the Expanded Universe wave that had reinvigorated interest and excitement for Star Wars over the previous half-decade, Lucasarts put out Star Wars: Behind the Magic in late 1998. Let's have a little dig in and see what else we can find.

As you can see, it's one of those omnipresent multimedia encyclopedias, but it's done to such a high production value and with such charm that outshines even the best of the 'Trek ones. It's a celebration of SW and a useful reference guide for anyone wanting to dip into the already sprawling EU.

The Expanded Universe was still canon at this point (George L even had an intro in my edition of Heir to the Empire stating that it was the official continuation of the SW story and 'verse), so the timeline goes to ABY 24 at this point. And you get some neat ship charts and tech databases.

Aha, yeah, totally. They've all got such distinctive vibes for the consoles and things like demo discs too that make for interesting digs. I put together a short looping video a while ago of one Xbox game's demo section after being so immediately enamoured by the tuneage.

Aha, speaking as someone who puts out a zine, I'd totally agree.

Aww, thanks for showcasing this! It's so spot-on with the presentation and vibes its going for.

Yeah! Sixth gen was great about balancing both. Really dig the GameCube menu for its aetheral vibes.

Haven't done a #TTRPG Tuesday in a while, so this week - Break!! Many years in development and recently released, Break!! takes its inspiration from the anime and SNES RPGs of the early 1990s - play fantasy archetypes like the Murder Princess or even regular folks having wacky isekai adventures

Same! I pick old memory cards up as often as possible for digs to try and interpret a snapshot of someone's gaming tastes and history. Plus, all the cute icons.

Aha, yeah, or called to dinner. And then just never went back to either of them!

From Vice City to Isengard - someone's twenty year old journeys frozen in time on one of our memory cards as the clock struck six on them both.

On June 25th, Katsuhiro Harada made a fascinating, insightful tweet regarding the Soul Calibur series and shifts in the game industry. For preservation & readability purposes, I have republished this tweet here with images, added emphasis, and footnotes. playingps2.xyz/games/harada/

New Sega Genesis game day is always a good day. Especially when it's a game this good!

Kit and I are trying out a demo of a very sweet indie game, Chants of Sennar, released last September. It's an interpretive language adventure game that does its revealing of language in a very natural way as you sus out what means what.

31 years ago today, Shining Force was released in North America for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive!
Shining Force (1992) - Sega Mega Drive / Genesis I just started playing this for the first time. Have you played it? I'm liking it so far; I love the tactical battle system and how open and free the world feels. The first major battle kicked my butt though! 😅 I welcome any tips! #retrogaming

IT'S ALIIIIVEEEE!!! IT'S ALIIIIIVEEEEE!!!!! Thanks to my waifu @luna.gateta.systems, my #apple #imac G4 "Flexo" is back and kicking. Next one: change HDD for a bigger one and make a Mac OS X Tiger partition along with Classic 9.2.2.

The imac G4's are such an interesting design. I have almost no experience with Apple computers, so they've always been quite mysterious to me.

Yeah, I've heard they were scammy in the just-about-legal sort of scam. I drooled over it all every time I saw the ad tho.
Avatar
Yeah, that's what I've heard about it over the years too, a legal scam.
Avatar
Aha, same here. Never entered it, but yeah, I'd since heard it was a scam too.

"Win the ULTIMATE GAMING RIG, OVER $20,000 in prizes!" You'll see this ad on both sides of the Atlantic often in VG mags from the early 90s to the mid-2000s in various forms and advancing with the times. 📖: EGM August 1996

Our PAL copy, published here in the UK by Psygnosis, is a neat little package with the original purchase receipt from '98, a paper map, and a wee Superb Owl-emblazoned players guide.
