If there’s one thing I want to do in comics, that I want to see more of in comics, it’s creatively prioritizing interesting presentations of interiority. Obviously there are a million different ways of doing this, and I’m thinking specifically of the way Annie Proulx will narratively step sideways
Doing some intellectual Simone Biles and talking about something I like instead of everything else in the world: I spent some time in the woods with friends and read the entire Wyoming collection by Annie Proulx. I don’t know where this writer has been all my life but it feels like a missing link
Remember all of these calls for civility and unity in a year or so when a member of the Biden administration or the squad or whomever is successfully murdered and truth social’s official White House account posts a singular shrugging white guy emoji
I’ve been professionally rejected plenty of times but this most recent instance stung more than I’m accustomed to. The process was further along, I had been vouched for and felt optimistic. Recalibrating for my own work after a very final “you’re not good enough” has been a challenge. Mentally here
Sorry to the UK for your perpetual governmental tumult but I very much appreciate the updates on Larry the cat every time a new prime minister moves into 10 Downing Street
Ayn Rand: oh my god... I see now how wrong I was..
Me with a time traveling xbox: they also made a second one where you can duel wield plasmids and guns but I gotta switch discs
I'm going to give people permission to be doomers today. This shit is despotic to a degree most Americans have no lived point of comparison for and no one is in the mood for policy dissection and paeans about the magical power of the ballot box
Beyond his obvious problems, Biden is the worst possible person to be President in this historical moment. He doesn't speak about Supreme Court corruption because he's a supposed "institutionalist," he convened a "commission" which came to nothing, he has absolutely no fire to rally the country, etc
Alan Moore: What if I read every comic this character's ever been in and made up a blackly funny final story for him that seems to follow logically from the others? I'm sad because I'm getting divorced.
Dozens of writers for the next forty years: yeah what if superheroes were like violent and stuff
most "introspective" superhero comics are fundamentally *re*constructionist -- they exist entirely within their veneration and centering of self and want to leave their scaffolding largely intact; nine times out of ten "real world superhero" conceits are a superficial aesthetic change at best
A few years ago Edward @purefollybooks.bsky.social posted pictures of Upstate as a new book he got in. I gave it a shot in instantly loved the series. Just read issue 4.
@stephenpellnat.bsky.social this was the best issue yet, your art is out of control great! Felt like David Lapham’s Stray Bullets
