Russia's losses are staggering. Likely over 400k now. More casualties than US in all post-WWII wars combined, and more than USSR/Russia in all post-WWII, pre-Ukraine conflicts combined. They can't do this forever. They say they can, trying to get Ukraine and the West to fold. But they really can't.
Im so happy about the election results in France. A victory for democracy.

So voting is better than *not* voting when it comes to getting what you want? Huh.
BREAKING NEWS: Voters turned out in numbers not seen in decades to stop the far-right National Rally from taking power in the French National Assembly. Polls predicted a first-place finish for National Rally, which instead came in third in initial results as polling stations closed.

Everyone is saying the Tory Party is no longer a viable entity. This is optimistic folly. The Conservative Party of Canada was in the same if not worse place in 1993, but they still exist. When Reform rejoins the Conservatives, things will return to the status quo, just like Canada.
This is interesting. Left-wing parties win a majority of the vote (Labour + LibDem + Green) but if Reform UK didn't exist, Jacob Rees-Mogg would have won under First Past the Post. Just as Tories won because of the spoiler effect... the spoiler effect now works in both directions.
I'm looking at the policy positions of most of the new British cabinet. Only Starmer, McFadden, and Reeves are leavers. The rest are remainers. This is not a stable coalition, but most Labour MPs are good people. Things are only going to get better from here.

Back in the early to mid 2010s there was this view that you should gently convince right wingers to believe in climate science and my response was always: "a right wing that believes the science is scarier than one that denies it" WELP HERE WE ARE www.theguardian.com/environment/...
Far right using climate crisis as bogeyman to frighten voters and build higher walls | Jonathan Wattswww.theguardian.com It is no coincidence that ever more extreme politics has come at a time of ever more extreme weather
"change Labour" "party first, country second" dear god... this is not good.
Angela Rayner is now Deputy Leader. If Starmer loses power, she becomes Prime Minister. THIS is why a Labour victory is a win not just for the UK but for all of Europe and NATO.

Jason Furman, 2022 (singled out only because he was admirably explicit): if unemployment stays low, inflation “will still be about 4% at the end of 2025.” www.hks.harvard.edu/centers/mrcb...
We need to move from “as long as it takes” to “as soon as possible.”
Good news! Democrats deliver!
OSHA proposes rule to protect workers exposed to extreme heat. The proposal comes as workers face risks from rising temperatures fueled by climate change. Biden has issued an order to prevent workplace heat deaths. Extemremely important reg. wapo.st/3XSFoOK

LETTUCE ALL CELEBRATE
Liz Truss has gone! Labour took the seat! By just 600 votes!
I like Scholz and Macron. They are honest center-left politicians. I distrust Biden. I don't like Starmer. There is a reason he runs from any policy question. He is more conservative than Tony Blair. He lied in his campaign to become Leader of the Labour Party. I don't trust him.
Margaret Thatcher supported Britain joining the EEC in 1975. Keir Starmer is a Brexiteer. On this issue, he is more conservative than she was.

This is also very good
There is a 7 foot tall guy behind Rishi Sunak who likely ran for office just to be able to hold a printed out L behind him during his concession speech.
Britain has officially shifted from far-right to center-right—a major move in the right direction.
Jacob Rees-Mogg is history. Good riddance.
LABOUR WINS!!!! CONGRATULATIONS UK!
40 seats left until a left wing coalition is possible.
This UK election is just as brutal as predicted. I am so happy right now, and Im American!
This election is giving me 1993 Canada vibes.
If the exit polls are accurate, this is the worst result for the Tories in history.
Vladimir Putin wants you to vote Tory.
3 hours to go until polls close in the UK...
