@adamserwer.bsky.social summed it up pretty aptly in an article a few yrs back: "every joke [...] every pretend gesture toward the moral standards of liberal democracy has the same punch line: We are going to kill you. There is nothing more profound to unearth from their ideas, or from them."
Jokes as a test of boundaries is a great way to think of it. It's the "kidding (not kidding)" approach many have seen. Another way I've heard this described is as a "threesome lie." Basically "I was just joking... unless you're into it." "Jokes" get them from unthinkable to thinkable to comfortable.

When I was younger "you don't have the right to sell your rights" was one of those obvious things that kept right-Libertarians from cluttering up message boards with their pro-slavery nonsense, and now here we are.
Virginia prosecutors are asking defendants to waive protections against unreasonable police searches as a condition of pleas. Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin vetoed a bill that would have ended that practice. NEW in Bolts:

instead of realizing the threat of authoritarian extremism and adjusting coverage accordingly, a bunch of media sector brunchlords decided to kiss the ass of the increasingly radical right wing and it's going really well for them

Also worth noting the Gazans being wiped off the face of the planet did not carry out terror attacks against Israel on 10/7. The people who did and who are responsible don't live in Gaza. And Israel knows that.
Absolute brainworms. Here Stephens seems to admit that the only difference between the Holocaust and the Palestinian genocide is that the Palestinians deserve it. If a tiny group of Jews *had* carried out terror attacks it would have been OK to kill 6 million of them?

De Rossi may be a green coach, but the advantage of that is that managers have yet to figure out how to break his sides down. It may be a matter of time before that changes. Hopefully it's a sign of things to come

Thoughts on Roma-Inter -De Rossi brings us an open game against a top side -Fitness is an issue. Inter overload came off too easily -Kaarsdorp is a liability when he's high up the pitch but facing Roma's goal -Baldanzani flashes of greatness -Question marks on Patricio's positioning on each goal

The plagiarism story is a canard. Were it substantiated, it would be grounds for Gay to also lose her faculty position, not just the presidency. I feel for the poor dweebs that fell for it.

Just to clarify: A member of Congress who supported white nationalism tried to get a Black university president fired by accusing her of anti-semitism. When that failed other white nationalists accused her of plagiarism, but needed mainstream media to treat it as a big story. And they did.
