Return to Oz - a movie that had a subplot about Dorothy being committed to a psych ward and given electroshock therapy because everyone thought she was delusional - was a thing that all of us just watched. As kids!
Once again, in case you’re wondering why Gen Xers are “like this,” watch any Disney movie between Walt’s death & The Little Mermaid, the shit we were raised on. Tried to rewatch The Rescuers last night and it is utterly Bananapants that a single soul thought this was acceptable kids’ fare

Is that the movie with the room full of heads?

I can see it so clearly, still, and I must have been...8? 9?...when I watched it. 😶

I think about the movies I watched as a kid and the fact I started reading Stephen King when I was about 10 and so much of how I am makes sense now.

This is precisely why I am the way I am. Throw in Roald Dahl's adult short stories when I was 12 or so, stir, salt to taste...

And Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark with Stephen Gammell's original illustrations.

I have no memory of reading those. Probably just as well.

Let's not forget the Wheelers.

For me the most disturbing was Jack Pumpkinhead: this tragic, sweet and fragile creature in a murderous world, with a costume that made it look like that heavy head was going to rip right off his neck at any moment. Honestly, that’s the thing that kept me up at night the most.

When I was a kid, I always wanted Jack Pumpkinhead and Billy Butcherson from Hocus Pocus to be friends.
