I can see it so clearly, still, and I must have been...8? 9?...when I watched it. 😶

I think about the movies I watched as a kid and the fact I started reading Stephen King when I was about 10 and so much of how I am makes sense now.

This is precisely why I am the way I am. Throw in Roald Dahl's adult short stories when I was 12 or so, stir, salt to taste...

And Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark with Stephen Gammell's original illustrations.

I have no memory of reading those. Probably just as well.

For me the most disturbing was Jack Pumpkinhead: this tragic, sweet and fragile creature in a murderous world, with a costume that made it look like that heavy head was going to rip right off his neck at any moment. Honestly, that’s the thing that kept me up at night the most.

When I was a kid, I always wanted Jack Pumpkinhead and Billy Butcherson from Hocus Pocus to be friends.
