Obviously there are games that are hyper-literate, thoughtful and text-heavy. Disco Elysium comes to mind. But the point of World Book Day is - or at least should be - obvious, and it's getting people to read books.
Perfect. No notes. #worldbookday

This post brought to you by Lottie Hazell's PIGLET, a messy girl lit fic novel which also came out in hardback recently and is on every table in every bookshop everywhere. FWIW I've not read it - I'm sure it's great - but how can one book come to be pushed so heavily in shops and another buried?
A friend had a book published by Penguin last week. Big advance, great blurb, reviewed in the Times. For a full week I've searched every bookshop in Bristol trying to find her book. It's nowhere: not on a single shelf. What chance does she have? What did she do wrong?

I thought it was just bad luck when I couldn't find my (mid-level, niche) debut novel on shelves at first. Now I'm starting to wonder about publishing/bookselling more widely. How much of your book's placement is down to good timing, or politics, blind luck? Does anyone even know?

Latest novel is finally turning from half-digested mush into something people might actually want to read, thank goodness. A mystical, inexplicable process, but one of life's great joys.

This is like that time I read the first volume of Proust and wanted to tell the whole world how great it was, but at least Proust used full stops
is Jon Fosse's Septology a masterpiece, yes, very possibly it is, but can I realistically recommend it to anyone I know, no, no I can't

it’s time to burn the incense, it’s time to slay the sheep, it’s time to wake the muppets, from a thousand years of sleep. it’s time to raze existence, it’s time to banish light, it’s time to call the void in, on the muppet show tonight.

My neurodivergent headcanon for the 60’s Batman series is that Bruce Wayne’s parents hired a troupe of eccentrics on retainer to keep him entertained, in the untimely event of their death.

Delighted to announce I've got another book due out later this year. It's a bloody, unhinged romp through the Scottish Highlands, centred on a commune with something truly dreadful growing in the margins. Pre-orders go live soon - if you enjoyed BLIGHT then you won't want to miss MARGINAL.
