Honestly making people stand outside in voter suppression lines during summer heat is dangerous though

What counts as impairment under the 25th only matters if you can get a majority of the Cabinet for vote for it

I’ve made a lot of jokes about the J.D. Vance sparkling water story from Hillbilly Elegy, to the extent that it probably sounds made up, but you owe it to yourself to read the real thing if you haven’t

When you spend an inordinate amount of time putting together an awesome spreadsheet and no one else is interested in diving into the data to find patterns

I pulled together 4 different datasets combining urban heat island, air conditioning prevalence, land cover, and race at the Census tract level I mean come on!

According to their findings, Cleveland has the 16th highest average urban heat island (UHI) effect among the cities evaluated. The average Clevelander experiences summertime temperatures 8.14°F warmer than average.
Avatar
Cleveland has 4 census tracts that experience a UHI of at least 10°F. The most intense heat occurs in Census tract 1968 in University Circle, where temperatures are 10.3°F higher than average. Census tracts 1048 (Tremont) and 1972 (Fairfax) each have UHIs of 10.2°.
Avatar
The most extreme disparity in the region occurs along the Cleveland - Euclid border. Residents of Census 1178 (East 185th & St. Clair) endure a UHI of 9.7°F. Just 1 mile south in tract 1527.02 (located in the Euclid Creek reservation), the UHI is 0°F.

These data are invaluable for helping identify the neighborhoods at greatest risk from extreme heat so that cities can better target interventions, such as tree plantings, depaving, cooling centers, etc.

Eric Adams opened this morning’s press conference by rolling a garbage bin up to the podium, placing a bag of trash in it, and saying “welcome to our trash revolution” while Empire State of Mind played in the background

If US EPA had made this mistake, Ohio would have been very much justified in suing

Air conditioning is an essential tool for adapting to climate change. But we absolutely cannot AC our way out of the crisis, and simply expanding AC access is not enough to reduce the increasing risks of heat. www.theclimatebrink.com/p/can-we-air...
