Yeah. I've worked in tech for a decade and don't own a single smart appliance. My phone is text only as much as possible (no assistant/listening etc).

We have a CRT TV and an ancient catering standard microwave.

i used to believe the final bit but way too many software people buy teslas and “smart home” bs can’t trust anyone we added “smart” cameras and light switches but they’re not cloud-based but local network. & use homekit (standard). & the switches have physical radio remotes to fall back on.

Nothing "smart" I have has a camera or mic. Never. Security cameras are local network, cloud nothing, and very secure. Other "smart" devices are completely isolated from my internal network and each other. Don't trust any of it.

Speaking of, I've been looking for security cameras that run on POE or power & wifi, & *DON'T* require cloud crap or phone apps. Any suggestions?

I'm the weirdo who set Google assistant to a language I don't speak and deleted all other language packs & i hate that I can't remove it fully

Am an engineer & sysadmin. This is 100% true, & I often preemptively disable device functions that have the potential to be annoying.

I don't need alexa, i have working fingers and duckduckgo lol
