Nothing has made me regret my decision to post about politics / current events on social media seldom, if at all even though I think about them all the time. But that often means I end up not posting anything. Anyway, here's one of my favorite movie posters just because I like it.

I used to be obsessively engaged with the social media news/opinion cycle until one day I wondered "What is the point of this? It doesn't help anyone." So I made a decision to use the time and energy for stuff like writing letters to my reps instead. Not telling anyone what to do, just works for me.

I really, really wish the tone was: this guy whipped up violence with his rhetoric for years and now he’s reaping the whirlwind.

Birthdays are a nice reminder that it's no small thing to have people around you who are happy to see you and make you feel loved and appreciated. I've spent the last two days surrounded by that, and it's made my heart full to bursting. ♥️

Jedi should be allowed to punch each other in the face sometimes, I think. Just a lil bop in the nose when someone's being dumb.

I need this to win. For America.

Faster, Pussycat! Eat! Pray! Love!

The utter chaos that is Disney+ episode runtimes will never not be confounding to me. "Here is our big new show. It's 45 minutes except when it's actually a hair over 30 for...reasons. Also, the last 6 minutes are just credits."

While watching Chime a couple of weeks ago with pals, we joked that it'd be fun to host a mystery screening where you'd see either a Kiyoshi or Akira Kurosawa film, but wouldn't know which until it started. Careful what jokes you make around cinema programmers.

After falling head over heels for JANET PLANET, I decided to make this the summer of Annie Baker. So far, I've read The Flick (lovely, heartbreaking) and The Antipodes (bizarre, unsettling, frequently hilarious). Next up is John, which I might be most excited for.

Thelonius Monk's "Abide with Me" popped up as I drove home tonight, fireworks on all sides of the highway, a moment full of both childlike optimism and melancholy, given the state of everything. It felt right.

Made a casserole with my Rabcho Gordo mayocoba beans tonight. Y'all weren't lying, those beans are LEGIT.

Today would be my Grandpa Ike's 104th birthday. To honor him, I went to a cafe in Independence for pie. I was told, "One of the girls will be by to wait on you." My "girl" is about 80 and a lifelong smoker. The coffee is awful. The pie, as you may have guessed, is great. Ike would approve.

I know I've said this before, but I always get a special little thrill out of the bit in "We Don't Need Another Hero" when Tina Turner is SO into the song that she scats along with the first notes of the sax solo.
