One of my favorite bits of disciplinary grandstanding is that the URL for American Political Science Review's Dataverse collection is just 'the_review': dataverse.harvard.edu/dataverse/th... I like to imagine that's the reason the AER is at OpenICPSR and the ASR doesn't have a repository at all :)

About the #UKElections - anyone know what's up with the SNP tanking? Is that 'just' the Nicola Sturgeon scandal or something else going on?

Well, the US did turn those into orange-colored "cheddar" cheese and wonderbread, which seem an apt analogy here.
I can't believe we, as a species, invented bread and cheese - two things that require multiple, complicated steps as well as microbe husbandry - and this is the best political system we've got

FYI, I've confirmed with Paul Musgrave that he intentionally deleted his account, so no need to start a hacking investigation

I love this series as a concept: incumbent against best candidate you can think of from the other party under several conditions - then, btw, who were you thinking about?

Is there any reason why people in the US are so insistent adding S and D to timezones? ET, CT, etc is perfectly unambiguous: the time in the timezone, on the date in question. This is particularly true bc no one knows which is which (courtesy reminder: the S is _not_ for Summer)

As an *actual* German, I'll talk about how - I appreciate Hasselhoff as a singer - Might be a bit direct - It should be enough praise for you if I don't yell at you for screwing up. I'll definitely not point to our great history of revenge, not least bc all ex I can think of are rather genocidal

Wife's music teacher colleague was at an event where Hanson headlined*. He had no idea who they were. Turns out, he was _born_ several years after mmmbob... and had never heard the song. I'm usually pretty immune to age-related stuff, but that one hit home.

I don't have an opinion on lab leaks, but the idea, held I think by a fair number of epedimiologists, that a sociologist of information (like Tufekci) is a 'non-expert' when writing about trust & pandemic policy is one of the reason public health messaging in the US was so poor.

Please allow me to add that it's not their fault that the stadium forces them to gather on a cycle route, and they are in fact very nice city visitors. All positive vibes across a seemingly endless stream of encounters (set to last another 36 hours or so). Swifties welcome anytime!!
As the Swifties descend upon Edinburgh, engulfed in fervor, they momentarily lose track of some of the simpler things in life (bike paths and physics)

there it is. "The congestion tax is not only a burden on police officers and other essential commuters — it’s bad for public safety,” said Patrick Hendry, president of the city’s police union, in the first of the two releases. nysfocus.com/2024/06/07/h...

The _entire_ CLR website remains "under maintenance" two days later. Just completely bonkers of the CLR Board (some context here: theintercept.com/2024/06/03/c... ) (Not endorsing the article, which I haven't read; but that's just not a serious approach to publishing)
Columbia Law Review took the whole site down instead of making this law review article available. PDF version available here: drive.google.com/file/d/1vC1-...
