One question — it came up on Pod Save — is why Biden's team wanted an early debate, if they didn't think he was doing well. Unfortunately, one answer could be, "Because they know he's going downhill and worried he'd be much worse in the fall."

Looks like Biden's campaign is taking the "weather the storm" approach, hoping the media coverage dies down and he can stay without it ever being conclusively litigated. Terrible plan! First, that won't improve his polls..... x.com/ec_schneider...

House of the Dragon really captures the patriarchal lie about motherhood. There’s so much sentimentality about mothers, but in reality, both mothers and children are readily sacrificed for male convenience.

Ultimately, I think Biden's campaign is trapped by a paradox if he continues. On one hand, Democrats are arguing that the fate of democracy is on the line. On the other, Biden can't take that threat seriously enough to let it get in the way his lifelong dream of being president.

Why, so there can be an intra-party fight between Kamala Harris and every other possible candidate? What, are you crazy? And Harris would be subject to the racism that hit Obama *and* the sexism that hit Clinton. I don't know that Biden can win but I'm pretty damn sure that no one else can.

"The time is past" is wrong for one reason: Biden told us he was capable of this. People voted for him because they believed this. They now feel he lied to them. That he betrayed them. And so something has to be done.

It’s such a perfect example of painting oneself into a corner. You’re exactly right, but the time for course correction has seemingly passed. I see no way he can maintain sufficient faculties for another 4 yrs, it’s now a faith that he can install “youth” to carry on the fight, if you will.

I try to stay out of intra-Democrat conflict these days, but Biden's defenders underestimate how his age has become a symbol, especially for younger voters, of not just how the party has failed but all institutions. His refusal to budge validates Trump's "give up and give in" campaign message.

Thank god for cats. They are just hanging out, nudging me for their snacks and reminding me life goes on, even if the world outside our door is collapsing for painfully stupid reasons.

Yeah, I spend a lot of time lamenting how social media makes people dumb. I forget that TV got there first.

We're going to lose our democracy because Biden has a cold and a stutter. Dear God.
