Here it is: An inside look at what it’s like to serve on a board of directors, in organizations ranging from tiny non-profits all the way up to multi-billion-dollar companies. This covers many of the biggest questions people have asked me over the years. www.anildash.com/2024/06/20/d...

I’ve just been appointed to lead a board of a non-profit startup. I think this board is naturally implementing most of your guidance, but it is such a valuable resource to have a roadmap to refer to when in doubt. THX.

whatever you do, get a copy of Nonprofit Kit for Dummies - it's very US-specific, but a lot of it also applies to my charity experience in Australia and the UK

This is excellent. I’m a Bd Secretary and have worked with large nonprofits, and I especially like your definition of fiduciary responsibilities, and how Boards have to thread the needle between rubber stamping the CEO agenda and making themselves de facto CEOs, getting too involved in operations.

This is exceptionally helpful, and I plan to ask the junior associates in my practice group to read it. Thank you!

Thanks Anil! You mention that in your experience they've been overwhelmingly male. I wonder if that's influenced by which boards you've been on, size of company, how long ago etc. Because I've seen some info suggesting that recently, for large companies, it's more like 30% female.
