I genuinely do not get how people are taking this incident as Evidence That Democrats Are Doomed. This kind of thing does not tend to have clear, linear “always good for the person it allegedly happened to” outcomes, historically

In the music education program I did in undergrad we were explicitly told not to offer criticism of our classmates’ teaching. It was our profs’ job to criticize us, and it was assumed we’d be self-critical as well. We didn’t need another critical space, even if the criticism was valid!

My PhD (that I’m working on now) is kinda about how this is what music is! I’m responding to another dissertation that compares two kinds of music because both “require trained listeners” but…all music is for “trained” listeners in the sense of humans with life experience

"art is a conversation between humans" is the best description of art ever with an addendum "across time" because the conversation can carry on for decades and centuries even (or be done in a second)

Having spent the last 23 years working with privileged people shocked by their first encounter with the criminal justice system, I submit that it’s fine to roll your eyes a bit behind closed doors, but patience is a better strategy for connecting with them and getting them to accept reality.

Apart from all the other issues, I think a lot of people get questions about informed consent and children transitioning exactly backwards. Normally people go through puberty without consent! Puberty blockers allow children to consent BEFORE irreversible changes happen to their bodies!

Long-tailed tit makes sense as a name because their tails are at least as long as their bodies but also long-tailed tit makes no sense because they are TINY birds, they do not qualify as long!!
