My lunch involved raw onions, sauerkraut, and cole slaw. Will I even hear the fireworks? 🐒💨

I've previously said that the real world-ender omega level power in the x-men universe would be a kid with ADHD who constantly & unpredictably generates new powers where the trick is the powers only last as long as the novelty does, but I'd also add 1 constant/recurrent power: The Worst Time Travel.

So i used to do a hashtag #BreakingHarms on Twitter, and i am reviving it over here now. If you're sensitive to discussion about SA, you might want to keyword-mute "Gaiman" and "Good Omens" for the next few days. (The news is not good, folks, & people will have a lot of terrible opinions.)

Arizona Indivisibles collected 31,939 signatures (145% of their goal of 22,000) to stop a GOP abortion ban and restore reproductive freedom in their state. Please show some love to our Arizona volunteers for a very successful year of determined work in every county from Apache to Yuma! 👏

Pointing again at my US Blue State Challenge. If you live in a "blue state", pick the red state you hate the most and the issue you care about the most and find a group in that state working on that issue and support them.
One thing I don’t understand is why, when people are outraged by some injustice or affront — like book bans — they don’t first look to see who is already tracking the issue, who’s already working on education + organization. “We need to do something!” People *are*. Find them. Help them.

Not the most terrifying thing but perhaps the most infuriating: every single thing we said about these fascist Republican fucks has been proved out and all the people who assured us that what is happening would never happen smoothly pivoted to yes it's happening but it will be fine.

Oh wow, I should have anticipated where this thread was going but I didn't 🧪
When an article says "some scientists think" then remember this: I, a scientist, once thought I could fit a whole orange in my mouth. I could, it turns out, get it in there, but I hadn't given sufficient thought to the reverse operation.

When watching PBS Mystery! one must wail along to the opening credits wailing lady. It is a rule.

I have paid bills, made phone calls, scheduled appointments, sent emails, and generally adminned all morning. My brain feels like it’s been scraped with a cheese grater. #ADHD

Another thing you can do is call Dick Durbin's office and demand he stand up for democracy and haul Alito and Thomas before the Senate Judiciary Committee. And publicly demand their resignations. If you can't literally impeach them, AT LEAST use the bully pulpit. 202-224-2152.

every time I see someone complain about unions I think about how unions were the consensus alternative to the previous system of burning the factory owner alive inside his house
Not making any threats here, just thinking out loud as a historian — do they people brazenly pushing for impunity for the wealthy elites not know what traditionally comes next?

Watching Comrades: An Almost Love Story before it leaves Criterion Channel and so far it is delightful.

Aldi mini ice cream cone treats are perfection. The ratio of cone to everything else is exquisite.

Periodically, I like to reread my favorite Scottish poem: Batman's Aff His Nut by Robert Florence.

Human beings were not intended to be subjected to unfiltered constant commentary about everything they do or don't do. Yet this is the age of uninterrupted comments as humans are called "content" and "accounts". It's good to actively ignore 99% of them especially from strangers.

I think part of the reason some embrace nihilism is because if everything is doomed, that means you don't have to DO anything about it. That's the appeal. I'm going to challenge myself not to share anything negative that doesn't include a suggestion for action from myself or others.
Gonna keep saying this & will die on this hill: Bad news without any guidance on what to do about it [at least some ideas] demobilizes and often encourages inaction. We on the Left(s) have to avoid cynicism which is deeply corrosive and also counterrevolutionary.

Okay so to be clear we are destroying power grids, the livelihoods of actual humans beings, and communication/research infrastructure for the sake of an algorithm that converts stolen data into unreliable stolen data and consistently loses millions of dollars. Just to be clear
