If the university you decline to attend gives you the opportunity to say why, tell them that their violent crackdowns on peaceful protest caused you to choose elsewhere. Admitted students turning down offers affects something called the yield rate, which is very important to university officials.

I cannot stress this enough: If you're a senior who is still contemplating which college to commit to, do not commit to a college that invites police on campus to arrest its own students. This is true even if you do not support the cause of the students currently being arrested.

I don’t know why it’s hard for so many people to believe that Columbia’s Jewish students (and esp visibly Jewish/pro-Israel students) could be experiencing harassment at the same time that pro-Palestinian protesters are experiencing harassment but… I believe many people can be simultaneously harmed!

My view is that antisemitism on some campuses is a real problem - but this action is horrifying, dictatorial, and protects absolutely no one on campus from anything, quite the opposite.

As part of an indefinite suspension, Columbia’s administration effectively evicted a student from her housing in the middle of the night after her arrest for leading a peaceful protest on campus, affording her only 15 minutes to pack her room. Makes a mockery of their homilies about student safety.

We (Jews, esp. in academia) should shout this from the rooftops. Rep. Stefanik et al. are not our friends. They don't care about antisemitism, they don't care about the Constitution, and they don't care about us. They use Jewish pain for cheap and tawdry political ends, which is itself antisemitic.

As a lefty Israeli academic I find the attack on higher ed by congressional republicans and people like Rufo and how it’s being handled by universities bad on every aspect of this identity.
