Prayers up that my 4yo is sufficiently recovered from his jet lag to stay in his bed all night so I don't get another 2am taptaptap on my shoulder and hear a voice in the dark say "Mama, how do flowers grow?"

Sticker Mule is both A) A more expensive option and B) Run by a trophy-hunting, Trump-worshiping Qultist. You have other options! Check this spreadsheet! (And while we're at it: ditch U-LINE. Also unfathomably awful people.)
all I had to do was click on one sticker ad on IG and suddenly my feed was full of other sticker ads. I clicked on them all and did the math for you. The best small-run samples pricing is at SlapCo; best overall pricing is at Sticker Cyborg or Sticker OG Factory. docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

I use StickerGiant. I have for years. Their staff is friendly and their stickers are cheaper than Sticker Mule’s anyway.

This is in part why I think that people using the term "doomerism" are missing most of the point. People are really scared and more than that many people don't know what to do about their fear. They don't know what action(s) might lessen it or alleviate some of it.

I think a lot about the fact that a lot of people don't have safe places in real life to say to someone else: "I'm really scared." So people use social media for that but don't preface the posts with: "I'm really scared." It usually comes out as "we're all doomed and gonna die" or as jokes.
This is really no time to insult people for being afraid.

I want the things Biden is now pitching (rent control, SCOTUS reform), but I guess the part of me that has been trying to be like "It's not as bad as it seems! He can still win!" sees these announcements as evidence that the party, which has much more info than I do, is scared shitless. 🫤

Beta blockers, SSRIs, most antidepressants make you more prone to sun sensitivity and dehydration. They can also make you more prone to burns as I understand it. Drink yer water, ya strumpets.

IDK who the first person to express this sentiment was, but: "When people talk about traveling to the past, they worry about radically changing the present by doing something small, but barely anyone in the present really thinks that they can radically change the future by doing something small."
What are people doing w/neighbors & friends to create & nurture networks of collective care & mutual aid? What small but significant (or super size me and spectacular, and everything in between) actions & practices are people talking about, preparing for, or taking?

At the bare minimum "this election is lost unless [thing the audience can't control]" is just a recipe to demoralize your base

lol I posted about moving away from StickerMule bc of that email and some local acquaintance was like "Yet it's okay for Penzeys to be political?!" Uh, yeah, because their values align with mine. I'm not saying companies can't take political positions, I'm saying I vote with my dollars.

People often ask me--how can we fix our safety net? And they want a list of policies. But we already know what a better net would look like. The real challenge is figuring out how to fight the Vances and the Thiels and the Musks who are keeping us from building what we need. 1/

Mostly agree except on reflection I feel like the three-day combo of the shooting, the Cannon decision, and the Vance pick was a powerful reminder of how miserable and exhausting it was to live with one goddamn thing after another when this guy had the spotlight for four straight years
I think Trump getting shot and being photographed with a defiant fist in the air, bloodied and unbowed, will actually lead to zero changed votes. He might be the only person in the universe that would be true of.

Saw someone’s take is “Bouie not being here won’t make or break” this site. I am happy to say some things about how platform migration works. It’s true, one user never makes or breaks anything, but for U.S. users the presence of young Black folks has driven the popularity of new tech for decades 1/?

I listened to an interview today with a photographer who was there, a 40-year veteran in that job, and he was totally shook by the experience. There really is no reason to assume Trump is the Superman his fans like to think of him as.

He was one turn of the head away from being killed. One person in the crowd just a handful of yards away from him died and two other people are in critical condition. It was terrifying to watch, I can only imagine what it was like to survive it.

There are also likely lingering physical effects - the adrenaline rush and subsequent crash are not things you just shake off with a good night’s sleep.
I find it strange that the GOP POTUS nominee had a near death experience 48 hours ago and there's almost no commentary about how that must be messing with his mind. There's no reason to think he would be processing this any differently than anyone else.

“Only 1% of the $333 billion given to health care last year from the private sector went to the nursing profession. Likewise, nursing does not receive the same governmental financial support that medical education receives… nursing education needs significant financial investment.”

Why aren't philanthropists stepping up to support nursing education?www.statnews.com If there are generous donors waiting in the wings, consider making gifts to nursing education. It is time to recognize the true worth of nursing by creating a real-life angel fund.

Some of you are trying to use intersectional theory to win the Oppression Olympics Theory grounded in the work of Black women is not a tool you use to silence those you disagree with nor a fist to punch at oppressors. As bell hooks said, theory is a liberatory practice www.uwyo.edu/aded5050/505...

Bluesky has a racism problem that some users are unwilling to acknowledge because this site's users consider themselves left of center This is not unique to bluesky btw. Every POC knows that every white-dominated space turns into this

I look forward to everyone being run off of this site because of six people in a Discord with no hobbies and a mistaken belief that posting on the seventh most popular social media site is an activism until all that’s left is one lethargic crab at the bottom of the bucket.

I found out last week that SM are Trumpets, and despite me using them once a month for years, it was a really easy decision to say nope, never again. And I would then to tell them exactly why they lost my business.

I also want to point out that Vance's whole "professors are the enemy" schtick came after he profited enormously from universities. Nowhere was "Hillbilly Elegy" pushed more than on college campuses. He cashed in with six figure speaking fees to talk about Appalachian poverty.
JD Vance has talked about emulating authoritarian Orban's gutting of academic freedom in Hungary open.substack.com/pub/donmoyni...

JD Vance is particularly odious to me because we’re roughly the same age and from the same part of Ohio and I grew up with a hundred pasty, squishy faced white dudes like him & they’re all convinced they’re marginalized because you can’t smoke at Waffle House or say the n-word anymore
