Every single one of these prohibited activities happens all over the @UF campus on football game days, except instead of “protesting” they call it “tailgating”.
Also, I know it's not the main point, but "prohibitive" instead of "prohibited" really does underscore the degree to which this university cares about education.
They were probably advised on that one by cops. "Trespassed" is a word I've only ever heard used by cops. Basically it means kicked out and charged with trespassing.
Yes. It’s standard to see at UF. Usually reserved for those that come on campus and try to break into labs, or act violently. But jeebus knows they’ll never trespass those nuts that verbally assault students, b/c that is protected free speech….
in the 90’s at FSU, listening to Brother Jed’s bigoted rants by the student was as much a springtime tradition as smelling azalea blossoms. but in 2024, “from the river to the sea” is one step to far
“No camping” on there twice, “no sleeping” which means every single residential student is in violation. Also “any other [anything]”? So the rules are vibes?
University staff seems to be universally composed of people with no skills of any kind who couldn’t get work anywhere else.
It’s unique cop language, but they’ve been using it this way, in lots of places, for decades. Read the police blotter and daily someone who has been trespassing will be arrested and “trespassed”.
They also have to specifically have a cop there because it’s a charge as much as it is a restriction for the future. There are gov’t entities other than UF that have been doing this for years, but their procedures are usually on such a scale that this is step 4-5 after other actions don’t work.
I’d be happy to explain to anyone who asks how whistling in a library eventually escalated to a lifetime ban for someone and me to feel unsafe walking to/from the bus stop. This is sort of how “trespassing” is supposed to work. It’s not supposed to be the 1st or 2nd action.
It's an argument some of us with intolerant schools have had for years. The antiwar movement in the early 2000s was constantly being threatened for "blocking the sidewalks" and I argued my point by taking photos of how one whole quarter of my campus looked on the day of a hockey game.
Sporting events are the biggest safety GM hazard on a campus - and ticket sales don't come close to covering the police, fire-emt, psych-services and trash/cleanup.
The administration should direct BILL all that stuff to the overpaid coach of the sports programs.
It would be more accurate to say that these prohibitions have finally come to campus; most of these activities are already essentially illegal in day to day life. Academia was sort of the last hold out.
You can tell they got a group together and did a brainstorm session. That last one must've been an "oh! Oh! I've got the best one that'll cover our asses!" moment
Thus, Wilhoit's law: "Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect"
Quick reminder that Ben Sasse was a freeloading Senator from Nebraska, but Pete Ricketts wanted his seat so daddy Ricketts bought Sasse the Presidency of this university.
And Gov. Jim Pillen wanted Ricketts's seat, so he made sure to donate oodles of money to Ricketts's campaign for Senate so Ricketts would support Pillen for Governor.
It's a billionaire ouroboros in this state.
