THE RHETORIC, IT’S SO VIOLENT

Spain now playing a 5-4-1.

Oh oh. ESP 1 ENG 0. Football is an easy game. That goal is a carbon copy of Spain’s winner in the Women’s World Cup last year.

Half time. ESP 0 ENG 0. Spain started with 80% of the possession, and the halftime stats show them with 70%, so somewhere along the way England must have had 35% or so. England with one half chance from a set piece (Foden), Spain with pressure but no dangerous shots on goal.

To my eyes, Spain have taken Mainoo, Bellingham and Rice out of the game.

England got a penalty in the SF because a Dutch player led with his studs. I don’t think Harry Kane can complain too vociferously.

England are playing as though they’re defending a one goal lead, and it’s nil-nil.

For reasons that are not entirely clear to me, England have decided to let the Netherlands play all the football in the second half.

The Dutch are looking a lot more assured going forward with the ball in the second half, and England’s tempo in attack is noticeably slower.

England starting the second half as if the first half were a bad date they’d prefer to put behind them.
