Absolutely wild that the court accuses the dissent of "fearmongering" with "extreme hypotheticals" when the actual basis for the indictment is a coup attempt that led to an attack on the capitol

One of my plans is to write something about the history of recent philosophy that starts with trends in citation data. To start, I've downloaded the citation stats for 100 journals, and looked at which articles have changed their citation frequency. brian.weatherson.org/quarto/posts...

I beg people to stop writing about how they think peer review should be reformed and just start a journal.

I mean I’ve seen a lot of weird results involving Pakistan over the years. The US have some good players, Aaron Jones should get a big contract after this, but no one should be too surprised by anything that Pakistan does.
Holy fucking shit. The US Cricket team just beat Pakistan. To put that in perspective, it would be like the Pakistan National Cricket team beating the Lakers. In basketball.

I'm slow to update my beliefs, so I was still under the impression that wind power was the way of the future, and solar was a niche product. I *think* what happened is that utility-scale solar got way cheaper, and so while rooftop solar is a small niche, solar in general is not.

We've been waiting so long for an accurate representation of philosophy professors in movies. I hope they show him leading a class on double-luck cases involving fake and real contract killers.
Richard Linklater's romantic thriller Hit Man is minor Linklater but major fun, w/ movie-star-in-the-making Glen Powell as a philosophy prof who moonlights as a fake contract killer (based on a real guy!). See it in theaters to show Netflix that, yes, we still like movies. slate.com/culture/2024...
Finally, an Honest-to-Goodness Great New Rom-Comslate.com Hit Man is actually funny, actually sexy, and announces the arrival of a major new movie star.

After some hassles with typesetting, 6 new papers up on Imprint today, including this paper by Chris Mole linking Iris Murdoch's writings to contemporary debates on the ethics of attention. As always, I'm very grateful to the Michigan Publishing folks for getting these papers into publishable form.

We pulled the trigger: The editors of 𝘗𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘰𝘱𝘩𝘺 & 𝘗𝘶𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘤 𝘈𝘧𝘧𝘢𝘪𝘳𝘴 have informed Wiley that we are resigning en masse. We will be starting a new diamond open-access journal with @openlibhums.bsky.social, the same publisher that is now publishing 𝘗𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘗𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘰𝘱𝘩𝘺. #philsky #PolTheory #polisky

I want the recording of the meeting where they decided to call it Panopto.

Some days I think the main point of traditional academic journals over modern archives is that the journals do a bit better at avoiding link rot.
"The internet is an unimaginably vast repository of modern life, with hundreds of billions of indexed webpages." But online content often disappears, too. How often? 38% of webpages that existed in 2013 are no longer available today.
When Online Content Disappearswww.pewresearch.org A quarter of all webpages that existed at one point between 2013 and 2023 are no longer accessible.
