I had no idea this was the etymology for “lord” and “lady.” #medievalsky

Highly recommend Dante: Inferno to Paradise, on PBS. Conjured memories of a grad school seminar. we read several translations of The Divine Comedy & discussed the nuances of translation. Had forgotten that one of the deepest layers of hell is for frauds & liars. 😉 #medieval #historicalfiction

So many historical figures I've thought of as single--wonder why? I'm watching the excellent Dante: From Inferno to Paradise and realized I'd never heard anything about his wife and children when studying him in grad school. And now I learn Martin Luther had a wife! 🗃️#historicalfiction #medieval

Okay so to be clear we are destroying power grids, the livelihoods of actual humans beings, and communication/research infrastructure for the sake of an algorithm that converts stolen data into unreliable stolen data and consistently loses millions of dollars. Just to be clear

Excellent advice for new writers.
Was just asked in an interview what one piece of advice I have for new writers. Enjoy the act of writing. If you can enjoy the process--the one thing you can control--then you'll be more resilient in the face of the things you can't control. And in this business, you can't control most of it.

I heard the term "techno feudalism" for the first time last night & immediately understood.

Spot on.
“AI” is the culmination of the tech industry. Every time you use it, you destroy the environment, erode labor protections, endanger workers overseas, enrich the ruling class, and make something unforgivably worthless, all at the same time – and it's all hidden from you in a frictionless distraction.

Diving into reviewing the copyedit today. So far--the copyeditor, instructed by two editors that I insist on the Oxford comma, consistently removed them. And I'm consistently stetting them.

An excellent thread! (Caught my eye because I'm watching the series Evil on Paramount plus, starting with season 1--I had shrugged it off as nothing I'd watch until I read that the Kings were behind it (The Good Fight). It's a brilliant exploration of the insanity in our midst. Like this thread.)
An essential read from the former research manager of Stanford’s Internet Observatory, on how spreaders of misinformation (people who have been deceived) and disinformation (people who know they’re lying) view even *labelling* a post as misinformation as censorship. More … 🧵
