All I'm going to say on the Neil Gaiman situation further is this. This was disappointing, upsetting, and infuriating to a lot of 6 owe a lot of apologies to all of us, and unfortunately, I don't think we are going to get one.
I'm pretty miffed about that. It looks like the NZ Herald at least tried to do some follow-up by contacting the police and getting the response that they couldn't comment due to privacy laws. Which makes the podcast claim on the police sketchy as well.
100%! This is weaponizing victims and taking advantage of their vulnerability in order to further a hateful cause. Nothing good is going to come of it. That's why I hate it so much.
I'm definitely concerned for the trans artists involved in the work itself. It potentially fucks them over and that is the thing I do not like at all about this.
There's some contradictions that are bugging me. The Terfs have him quoting about their mental health but also saying he declined to comment. The NZ Herald is saying the police couldn't confirm due to privacy reasons, but somehow, the Terfs were able to confirm it with the police?
The blaming of her mental health is also extremely gross. So he's saying she's not mentally fit to say what happened to her was assault but she was mentally fit to look after his kid. Make it make sense!!!
It's just disappointing and infuriating as someone who's grown up reading his works.... I'm definitely going to start seeking out more BIPOC and LGBTQ books because I can't keep doing this.
