This is not to excuse the inexcusable but I do not think you could craft a better system of turning nominally caring and compassionate people into dehumanizing assholes than to regularly interrupt a person’s sleep with stupid bullshit the way they do with doctors.

The hospital recently opened a walk-up IT support counter that everyone passes when coming in from the parking garage and while I’ve ever seen someone walk up to it to ask the guy for help, I’ve always seen him on the phone helping someone and every time he sounds extremely frustrated.
