When I explain my reasoning, trolls say I’m “condescending.” They don’t offer reasoned counter arguments. Rational thought just seems condescending to those who never learned it.
Gosh I've had those. I explained I was an atheist Buddhist to one before because I realized: If I believe there is no higher will at work, then all evil done we choose to do and a better existence can only arise from us choosing better, over and over, until the world changes.
They were shocked.
had a terrifying conversation with a born-again Christian that i'll never forget-
was explaining to him that Judaism doesn't have a concept of eternal hell-
and he asked "then what keeps you from raping and killing and stealing?"
“So you think warning me about Hitler will motivate me? I’m a pure hearted soul that hates being lectured. The feckless Social Democrats will have to earn my vote!”
"The members of the mainstream media are human beings (despite frequent appearances to the contrary) and human beings respond to incentives. There is an enormous personal financial incentive to another four years of Trump in the White House" www.oliverexplains.com/p/the-media-...
On Tuesday, activists picketed the house of Supreme Court Justice Roberts. Today, they visited Justice Kavanaugh's house.
Picketers played audio recording during the confirmation hearings of Justices saying, "No one is above the law . . . "
It's kind of a great thread:

Whatever the actual outcome is, you people currently running around pissing your britches ought to feel ashamed of yourselves. And if you get your way and we then lose, you should feel a deep, burning shame until the last moment you draw breath, which I hope will be a long, long time from now.
We’ve been getting a great tutorial on why so many people distrust the mainstream media since the debate. Reminds me of William Randolph Hearst promoting the Spanish-American War to sell more papers; these folks liked the Trump years because it made getting clicks easier.
The smart cold warriors allowed fascism to survive and grow in the U.S.—because “communism.” Now fascism threatens the world again. Nice move, smart guys.
Fear & cowardice are the primary motives of these politicians & pundits imposing the narrative. It’s hard to tell sometimes if it’s a fear of defeat or a fear of victory. But it’s not a good “look,” as they say. Are donors and media owners the masters of the country? I guess the people don’t matter?
Obviously the McGovern campaign was its own thing but I think it should be considered that panicking and switching the candidate at the top of the ticket is a vote of no confidence that everyone will hear
News about Thomas Eagleton's prior treatment for depression (which included electroshock therapy) dropped in July, he withdrew August 1, and in November McGovern won only Massachusetts - far and away the worst defeat in Democratic party history
"one day you will be enlightened"
buddy, as a popular YouTube creator who gets a barrage of comments where people ask questions which I've already answered and/or are an easy internet search away, "just read these books" is not the effective strategy you think it is.
I know nothing about PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE. I don't know the murderous aliens behind it, particularly Xarzon, who is a good friend. Anything they do, including raising the dead to destroy humanity, I wish them luck. But it has nothing to do with me.
Hail Xarzon.
I don't take the age thing seriously. THEY PICK A LIE ABOUT EVERY DEM, and the press knows it's some BS but plays along. They know that the other guy is worse in every way, especially his brain. They turned being a war hero into a liability against a fortunate son draft dodger.
A lot of this feels like it's a combination genuine anxiety & efforts to placate donors by pols who depend on those donors & expect to do so long after Biden is gone
So I'm going to go ahead & blame Citizens United & the traitor John Roberts for this headache too.
The thing I keep coming back to on this post is “bloodless if the left allows it to be.”
He’s not saying “bloodless if the left doesn’t fire the first shot.”
He’s saying “bloodless unless the left wins.”
He’s advocating for violence if he doesn’t like the outcome of the election.
That Heritage Foundation statement threatening a violent revolution against the left = that moment in a movie in which the forces of evil loudly announce their evil plans.
except in real life, unlike in a movie, most normal people don’t even realize this has *happened* (which is our job).
Can he do the job? Well, fuck, he’s already been doing it for the last three and a half years. Unlike the criminal who couldn’t be bothered to do a damn thing, even during a plague. But dure, keep asking your dishonest questions, you slanderous maligners.
Biden's mental acuity completely aside, any time I see stories about "elite Democratic donors" that include people like "Disney heiresses" talking to the press to get their way my immediate reaction is to think "fuck those people, how can I help ruin their plans"
American Fiction (2023)
A satire about Black Americans in the largely white publishing world. The film takes aim broadly at representation in general. There are laughs, and I like seeing Jeffrey Wright in a lead role. Some mixed feelings here, but the "meta" multiple endings wrap things up cleverly.
The “narrative” of the news “cycle” doesn’t just happen. It is crafted by people with influence to achieve those people’s ends. When you hear “everybody’s saying this,” the meaning is that a certain finite group of people are deciding to say this over and over.
Theory:
Our current political climate comes from the mindset of those who want to speak to the manager because they're unhappy, and are flatly uninterested in understanding why they're unhappy or whether they should be. They just want the manager to "fix it" and thus are willing to empower tyrants.
