Chris Grayling is on his way to the House of Lords. There is no sanity in the world.

Also Caroline Pidgeon, Theresa May, Alok Sharma, Graham Brady, Craig MacKinlay, Eleanor Laing, Liam Booth-Smith, Margaret Beckett, Margaret Hodge, Harriet Harman, John Cryer, Kevan Jones, Rosie Winterton and John Spellar.

Sharma at least deserves it. He worked his heart out on COP.

He was a good constituency MP too (my MP for a while). Very popular locally and a decent man.

Wait until the chamber is in session, then chain the doors shut from the outside. A couple hours of not being able to snack & no access to subsidised alcohol and they'll have turned to cannibalism.

*nods along, definitely knowing what all of this means*

They’ve ball been nominated to become Lords and Ladies in the second chamber, the House of Lords. Yes, it’s as stupidly archaic as it sounds.
Avatar
Look, we've all seen how Britain good is normally at voting. You can't be trusted to elect both chambers and the head of state. One chamber is plenty. Know your place.

I'll tell you what, after being born there and living there for 40 years and thinking that all that stuff is normal, it's only when you emigrate that you realise who utterly batshit it all is. Utterly.
Avatar
Who invited them? Are these promotions? Was this just announced?
Avatar
Nominated by the party leaders.
Avatar
Is this them trying to keep some power by rigging the Lords. Trying to do their best to at least slow & hinder Labour. Preserve the Tory Party in at one house of government.

the only peer to arrive by ferry

Unfortunately there are no ferries because the company has just been set up by one *checks notes* Michael Green

just the one Michael Green?

If Starmer does not follow through with the plan to finally, for once and all, abolish the House of Horrors, people will be very disappointed.
Avatar
Avatar
He’ll have no option but to stuff it first, which will look bad. But given he has to approve Sunak’s, imagine if Starmer announced with a straight face he’d be the *second* PM not to have any resignation honours.
Avatar
He’s not promising to abolish the house of lords though right? It’s minor reforms and maximum age to sit but the lords will remain as an institution…
Avatar
failing Grayling? fucking hell.
Avatar
He’ll probably think he’s been given a seat at Lord’s.
Avatar
Avatar
Has this already been approved?
Avatar
Avatar
Are these being announced just to fill the next ten minutes of airtime?
Avatar
If Starmer gets in, can he dismiss some of the nominations?
Avatar
nah not these and not worth it either
Avatar
Grayling? He's going to accidentally set off the fire alarm within five minutes of walking into the place.
Avatar
Doesn't Sunak have to officially resign before he gets a resignation honours list (as obscene a concept as that is)?
Avatar
HoL reform required quickly I think.
Avatar
He’ll never find it, he only found the constituency once in 11 years, in my experience
Avatar
Oh thank goodness, he'll destroy the place.
Avatar
He should be in prison!
Avatar
Avatar
Would not be surprised if there is a whole load of them end up there..
Avatar
Avatar
Avatar
Did anyone from Downing Street put any bets on this happening?
Avatar
The surest sign yet that it's going to be abolished.

Avatar
Failing Grayling of the ferry contract that had no ferry
Avatar
Even the names on that list that I approve of shows just why the HoL has to go. Its not a reward for exhausted former MPs.
