BREAKING NEWS: Voters turned out in numbers not seen in decades to stop the far-right National Rally from taking power in the French National Assembly. Polls predicted a first-place finish for National Rally, which instead came in third in initial results as polling stations closed.
To be clear: a coalition of the Left — the socialists — and the Greens were able to block the far Right in France.
And there is a lesson here for the US: voters across the West want the neoliberal experiment to end.
We CAN and we MUST end it to save the future & improve people's wellbeing to boot!
Granted I’m a big prisons nerd, but still, it’s been a whole day, and I’m really surprised at how happy this has made me. A day on and I’m elated by it. (Timpson was also chair of the Prison Reform Trust.)
For those who don't know: this is James Timpson of Timpson key cutters/shoe repairs/dry cleaners. His company employs ex-convicts and even runs work training programmes in prisons. Genuinely inspired choice.

"Cat 6 hurricanes have arrived"
@michaelemann.bsky.social
tl;dr: Category 6 hurricanes are now being considered as a valid concept. Ocean warming makes it inevitable that hurricanes will get stronger.

I don’t like first past the post and in general prefer minority governments or coalitions. But I think it would be very bad for everyone if Sunak’s Conservative party didn’t get a notably worse result than Major’s, because the cynical and lazy approach of the last two years would appear validated.
One of the great benefits of First Past The Post is that it enables voters to kick out the bums. Tomorrow should be cathartic for a lot of people.
There will be a lot of talk about disproportionality, but that will overlook a central desire of much of the electorate to punish the incumbents.
last poll its weird !) released after polls open and delayed and 2) the gold standard showing this massive change plus SNP at 6% which is clearly wrong plus the green share ? @chadbourn.bsky.social
