“The Post surfaced cases in which officers were accused in police reports of sexual contact with minors but were charged only with non-sex crimes such as simple assault or official misconduct.”

“Despite GPS and body cameras, patterns of abusive officers — repeatedly returning to a child’s home, giving children rides or bringing kids to police stations — sometimes went undetected for weeks, months or even years.”

who covers for someone like that? rhetorical question - but seriously, it's so gross and appalling - why would your instinct not be to beat the shit out of them and book them? perverse system.
Avatar
Because some* people think some* kids are not worth protecting.
Avatar
this reply just breaks my heart - because it's true, and it is monstrous

Recently saw stories about Nestlé adding sugar to baby formula in poor countries and a tech company training their AI on photos of children in Brazil from parents' social media without their consent. Add what is excused by some in Gaza and Sudan right now. Even globally, this is true and monstrous
Cops have the extra protection that they can shoot people who narc on them.

Because qualified immunity won't cover it.

So not Drag Queens?
Avatar
Those are the ones actually charged and reported in the media

How much larger of a percentage are abusers in the police force vs overall population? The job must draw people that would want authority to commit these acts.
Avatar
that 40% rate of domestic abusers on cop forces that's the admitted number the hiring bias leaning towards stupid and brutish is intentional, the draw of these people is on purpose

It’s not the paywall. The infographics they added to that article is simply breaking it, even with Adblock and reader view disabled. Archive.is got some of it but not every section.

Add to the fact that the police academy is barely 5 months. You have to go through longer training to be a mortician than you do a cop.
Avatar
yep, not too much training involved in "assault the vulnerable and defenseless" lots of them are just turning their passions into a paid career

1800 out of what… hundreds of thousands? seems like the percentage you would expect in the general population for abusers. That isn’t the big issue. The issue is they are PROTECTED by the badge. Only 1 in 10 faced any charges.
Avatar
Correction, those 1800 are the ones charged. Elsewhere in the article (which doesn’t want to load, even for subscribers) they estimate 1/10 were charges. So that’s maybe 18000, still within expected probability for the general population. But again, the problem is most bad cops don’t face charges.

Sorry to say but the US isn’t just a failed but even more so a totally fucked up society. But then again nothing else to expect from a pure capitalistic system like the American one.
Avatar
No more so than any other society, even less so than some.
Avatar
That's pretty scary. Similar in the UK with Met Officers. Power corrupts.
Avatar
The corrupted are attracted to power.

It's staggering just how deeply ingrained this type of abuse appears to be. How is it possible that it's taken centuries to surface this behaviour and how is it possible that it's not been eradicated root and branch by now? What's it going to take to stop this once and for all, forever?
Avatar
And they want to give police immunity?
Avatar
Look at all those drag queens... Oh wait.
Avatar
Police unions enable the predators and criminals.
Avatar
assuming 1 instance per cop (which is a wild underestimate; most sexual predators are serial offenders), that amounts to once every 2.8 days a cop sexually abuses a child
Avatar
Fake news!!!! Too many white faces for it to be true, we don't do things like that. The police photographer must have used a very strong flash to make all these black and asians look whiter.
