I will bang this drum forever: in THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE FREE: THE GERMANS, 1933-45 Milton Mayer interviewed 10 ordinary Germans after WW2 to learn how fascism took hold. There was never a moment when everyone woke up:

For Disability Pride Month I’m once again begging for more artists to start considering accessibility and add alt text to your images. It helps low/no vision folks, neurodivergent folks, and more. Plus alt text shows up in searches! There’s a toggle in settings so you won’t forget. 👇

The States Project is one of the best bang-for-your-buck options for your campaign donations. Even beyond it, though, state legislatures deserve your attention. Next time you're tempted to send money to whoever's going to lose to MTG, send it instead to a contested state leg seat.
Looking for one person to join me today in donating to flipping both statehouses in Arizona to create a new trifecta for democracy. This is the smartest political donation we can make this year.

Had we listened to Anita Hill, we wouldn't be here today. Had we listened to the women sexually abused by Trump, we wouldn't be here today. Had we listened to Christine Blasey Ford, we wouldn't be here today.

Here's the thing, there are so many fights being fought right now just to maintain the status quo nevermind fixing what ails us.

The Enshitification of everything. You buy a rain jacket, the zipper breaks. You learn there are PFOs in waterproof things. You learn it’s absorbed thru skin. You buy a hose. It melds to the faucet in a short time. You buy a toaster, it breaks in 6 months. It’s everything. Nonstop. It’s Exhausting.

I don’t know why AI needs gigantic amounts of energy to come up with really shitty takes when most of y’all seem to do it just with burritos and tequila

Reminder: every lawyer you know personally—your cousin, your neighbor, whatever—has more experience practicing law than Kavanaugh. His career was (a) lackey for Ken Starr (b) second/third chair on briefs for clients of a big firm. Zero trials. Handful of oral arguments.
there's a lot that's disqualifying about Kavanaugh, but the harder question is what's *qualifying* about him bsky.app/profile/seth...

Watching Sandi's Wood, about woman saying she couldn't sit around hearing about climate change. She wanted to do something. So she bought a woodland. She's restoring it. "I can't change everything," she said, "but I can change this little piece." I burst into tears. I've said this about my garden.

walipini greenhouses are interesting. They're greenhouses that are partially subterranean. The average temperature one meter below ground is about a constant 55F, ~12C.

A lot of people will, when building a walipini, extend the trench in a big loop and put a duct there. The air inside this duct will stay at a constant 55 degrees. Pumping this air into their home provides cooling in summer, heating in winter, with almost no effort.

I'm also entering an age where death starts to really take out more people you know; and Boomers aren't living as long as their parents did. And Boomers' kids won't live as long as THEM, etc. So there's like this generational death accordion where we're all smooshing closer together.

The latest numbers show inflation cooling. But rent prices are still high and are the main driver of inflation now. Just so happens that recent investigations have found evidence of algorithmic price-fixing by major corporate landlords. High interest rates won't fix this.

This link shows the book attachment, and you can also get the iPad attachment separately. I like this base (the G2) because it's heavier (good for balancing heavy books) and has wheels. Only complaint is it's a bit of a pain to swap between the iPad and book attachments.

I recommend reading The Tainted Cup!!! This reversal was one of the delightful bits of that one. amzn.to/3yPo1UA
I’m trying to think if I even know of ONE “female genius” that was ever described as or lived as the male equivalent. As in, endearingly referred to as scatterbrained, a posee of caretakers & sycophants, idiot savant, someone always ready to make a meal & clean up after her at any time 🤷‍♀️
