Controversial opinion: Longlegs was two different movies. The first 2 thirds were a True Detective style investigation with a lot of moving parts. The final third was a desperate scratch to haul itself to a supernatural conclusion. The magcuffin wasn’t explained. The connections weren’t made. Fail.

Ah. I see your anxieties about the world have escalated. This calls for reinforcements.

Treasure Planet is actually a gem about growing up fatherless and becoming an adult. Long John Silver made for a perfect antagonist-to-father-figure, Doppler a great father figure, the captain a badass father figure, and Ben an eccentric father figure.

Over the past month, I forced myself to read for fun again. As a #writer, it’s been difficult to step into that space of late. And it was enlightening. I’m still a huge fan of the classics, but here’s a short thread of the #books I read and how I felt about them:

I have said all along that I think Biden will win in November; I know he is the only choice to preserve this disgrace of a democracy. And still, this is terrible. It is shameful. That this is the best we have on both sides? The moderators refuse to moderate. It’s fucking ridiculous.

Really something that the three original Southern Reach novels have sold well over a million copies in the U.S. alone--and they keep selling year after year. Thanks for loving them so much. The new Southern Reach novel Absolution is out October 22. Preorder now from your favorite bookseller!

Looking to commission cover art from a real artist, no AI. Retro sci-fi space cowboy stuff, nice and pulpy! If that’s your jam or the jam of an artist in your Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, I’d love to see some of your work. Thanks!
