The Washington Post's new publisher offered NPR an exclusive interview if they agreed to kill a story about his legal troubles. NPR refused. Absolutely outrageous, disqualifying behavior. www.npr.org/2024/06/06/n...
One funny thing about all this reporting: we now know of at least 3 instances (twice at WaPo, once with NPR) where Lewis tried and failed to kill stories about himself. He's not just unethical, he's also bad at it.
We can't be sure about that until we know what the denominator is. His failure rate might be, say, 3%. There really could be that many bad stories about him.
Well, being bad at his job (seems that killing stories which afflict the powerful is an important part of journalism) is the one thing that speaks in his favor for being retained at the Post.
I think the LA Times is still pretty decent. I'm sure some asshat billionaire will come along soon and muck that up. Politics and business in NYT and WP now are so utterly compromised that they arent worth reading. But good recipes and games!! Weeeeee, fund our propaganda by playing our games! win!
I live in Chicago and use Block Club Chicago as my general news source for things happening in my city. I also follow specific reporters I trust and read Jezebel, Mother Jones, The Nation, Pro Publica, Salon, Time Magazine and Vanity Fair.
Honestly I just check Associated Press for that. Sort of the “generic brand” version of news. It’s the source for what a lot of other media outlets pick up and spin, anyway, so if one just needs an overview it’s fine.
