You really can put anything into tuna salad: nuts, grapes, washers, pickle relish, onions, mayo, iron filings. Truly the best sandwich spread.

It's because we all have day jobs, advances are pennies, publishers don't market, one underperforming book tanks your career, and we're expected to be well-tuned brand machines on social media websites designed to suck our souls dry.

Watch SCAVENGERS REIGN. Watch CAROL AND THE END OF THE WORLD. Watch BLUE EYE SAMURAI. Watch PLUTO. Netflix needs to understand that *original animated series for YA/adults* have value beyond raunchy comedy. There IS an audience for it. They’ll keep canceling them unless they see those numbers.

Just FYI we’re entering a summer Covid wave right now (especially western regions in the US); you can see it in the CDC wastewater plot here (and anecdotally a bunch of my friends are suddenly testing positive). www.cdc.gov/nwss/rv/COVI...

Holy shit. I just found that Adam West, who famously played Batman in the 1966 TV series, also played millionaire Bruce Wayne. What a talented actor.

This is just one of the examples of the legal problems AI will create...
OK. So... I'm testing and familiarizing myself with many of the the major AI tools, for professional reasons. I asked ChatGPT 3.5 to tell me about the Axanar case (which it did OK). Since ChatGPT is plugged into DALL-E, I then gave it the prompt below, and got the result you see. And...ummm.

One of the best lines in the original SW, now ruined by add-on media, was "Years ago, you served my father in the Clone Wars", and NO ONE STOPPED TO EXPLAIN TO EACH OTHER WHAT THAT MEANT. It made the universe feel REAL. It had a past, and people who lived in it had shared knowledge of it. 1/2

I'm listening to an audiobook about the first 6 women astronauts at NASA and one of the nuggets about Sally Ride is that she wanted to play baseball as a little girl but shifted to tennis when she realized her baseball dream was impossible. This specific exclusion shows up a lot in women's stories.

We always knew the science behind the Bell Curve was bad, but this goes into detail in how the "scientist" consulted for it was a flat-out racist and eugenicist.
my view on these things is fairly dismal to start but the real story of the datasets behind the Bell Curve managed to slither under my considerably low expectations. very good article here detailing all the specifics

You can't make crochet with a machine. If you see it sold cheaply, it's faked with a knitting machine, or someone was made to make it in less than fair circumstances.
ok i have another quote tweet prompt. what's something, big or small, related to your job or hobby, that most people don't know that you would like to have them know? it can be a concept, a piece of history, some vocabulary, or something else.

Oh, you think it's unrealistic that comic characters are forever frozen at a single formative moment in their youth and incapable of aging beyond it? Wait until I tell you about comic book readers.

i just want zoomers to know that computers were actually useful once. before the iphone/ipad/android/chromebook, computers ran software that was just like a program that did what it was supposed to do. also the internet used to have a lot of cool stuff on it that didn't give you an anxiety disorder

I made this Pride flag using only NASA images and our team thought it would be cool to share on social (I work on the NASA heliophysics communications team), but it's getting all sorts of hate on the bird app and Fbook. Thought y'all might be more appreciative of it here. ☺️🏳️‍🌈💖

The richest people on earth believe they can create so much hatred and disgust for trans folks that it can be used to roll back women's rights, queer rights, privacy rights, rights to public education, rights to free assembly. It's all the same fight. I wish more of y'all saw that.

59 years ago today, Griswold v. Connecticut guaranteed the right to birth control. Justice Thomas says the Supreme Court should "reconsider" that ruling. And this week, 38 GOP senators voted against the Right to Contraception Act. Republicans are coming for birth control.

Pixar forcing queer and POC stories to go straight to streaming, then using the lack of theatrical success as an excuse to kill queer and POC stories is the entire entertainment industry in a nut shell.

Can you imagine how embarrassing it must be to be an eldritch being of incalculable might, only to be defeated by some humans, and worse, while you're lying there powerless, they turn it all into some banal life lesson? You want to dissolve into the ether rather than hear any more...
