Anarcho Commie; looking for same.
#ACAB, #BLM, free Palestine, abolish the oligarchy, zero out the military budget, nationalize energy and rail to kill fossil fuels.
Oh, and did I say fuck cars?
Yeah, that too.
With food, gardening, and remodeling stuff.

I’m quite proud of this soup. Vegan bacon, 3 potatoes, 5 leeks, bottle of white wine, qt of cream, thyme and pepper. The key is to brown the bacon and taters first, so they don’t get mushy. Add wine to stop sticking, then leeks, soften, and the cream and bring to boil. Simmer an hour plus.

So, I thought making some potato leek soup would take my mind off my bad mood. Nope. Even root vegetables are pissed off.

Just listened to some 90’s pop, and remembered that “Treasure” is pretty damning about settler colonialism. Plus ca change, and all that.

I still think about this roof garden I did in 1999. It was ten years old when these pictures were taken. Got ripped out a few years later.

So, my times walking Springwater (7 miles) were gradually getting slower (from 82 minutes to nearly 90), so I opted to invest in the UGG walking shoes I was wearing back then. 86 minutes. Yep, it’s old age. But they do feel like heaven, so that’s something.

I use this bad boy and it works like a dream.

Pretty decent step week, considering there was a heat wave in there.

This orchid started blooming in mid May so I moved it from the back stairwell to the living room, as usual. Has been blooming twice a year for five years, and will probably last another month, if past is prologue. My first (and probably last) success in this endeavor, after years of failure.

Cocktailhag heatwave hack: Dig up an old window fan left over from the last smoke apocalypse, then put a big hunk of ice behind it. It works better than I thought it would.

Nothing to see here but a mile long oil train heading into a densely populated urban area.

Last night’s dinner: kidney and cannellini beans with gnocchi, garlic, onions, carrots, fresh rosemary, Roma tomatoes, sun dried tomatoes, and a few green beans from the garden. A can of Amy’s tomato bisque as the base. Served on a bed of spinach with a little sour cream and dill. Tonight? Same.

I don’t know whether I’m embarrassed or proud to say that I still smoke out of the foil pipes I learned to make as a 15 year old busboy in the employee bathroom. I buy fancy stuff, and it gets clogged and I’m invariably too lazy to clean it. This way, I have a new one every week.

Since my weather app is saddled with this shit if I just move my thumb wrong, for once it made me gloat. It’s a mere 80 here, and pleasantly breezy.

I made my usual tofu peanut curry, with onions, cauliflower, tomatoes, coconut, peanut butter, and coconut milk. Served over brown basmati rice. Tasty, easy, and 3 dinners of leftovers.

Last day of the month, so I’m busting it on my step count.

Just listening to this awesome 1987 album. Sample lyric from “Confession”: “We held their hands To steal their lands And turn our bibles into building plans. We took no blame for the lives we lost Because we did it all in the name of God.” Seems relevant today.

You’re never too high to use one of these bad boys.

Finally got enough beans to harvest some for dinner. Send bean recipes… Pretty soon I’m going to be Lucy at the candy factory with these things, because last year this happened weeks later.

The purple striped beans just started producing.

Tonight’s dinner: Leftover shepherds pie (beans, tofu, corn, Worcestershire, with a garlic mashed potato crust with pepper jack cheese), served on a bed of spinach and topped with sautéed cherry tomatoes with dill and pepper.

My most awesome orchid continues to get more beautiful, after a month of blooming. Which it’s been reliably doing twice a year for five years.

A story as old as time.
the woman on the cover of the box was a perfume sales clerk one of the creators met while shopping for his wife

So, yesterday I made my sweet potato/beet stew with tofu, onion, and Vermont chèvre cheese, but the leftovers were skimpy, so tonight I added a bed of spinach, Brussels sprouts, and brioche bread. Think I got carried away (I blame the evil weed), but for the record I ate the whole thing.

My beans are already producing; I’m sort of embarrassed how excited I am about this.

This is the advantage of living in a four room shack from 1922. Every room has both light on two sides and cross ventilation. And the windows (after a lot of work) open both top and bottom. Harder to do in larger buildings, but not impossible.
No it’s not built like that. I have only one opening to the outside. Was set up for AC, not air flow

My Jasmine has finally passed the point or nurturing and entered the era of fighting it back. It’s taken almost eight years.

This was him, and I’m alarmed by how much we look alike. Never saw him from age 6-12, then not until 25 or so. He was a lawyer, and later a DA, and served in glorious Harney County between 1978-1987.

Tonight’s dinner, my good old shepherd’s pie. Crust is mashed potatoes with garlic, basil, and pepper jack cheese topped with paprika. This time the filling is tofu, kidney beans, corn, carrots, green pepper, onion, garlic, stewed tomatoes and tomato sauce. With Worcestershire, thyme, dill, pepper.

I can. This happened in Portland a few years ago.
An actual crime being committed at Superior & Wells in Chicago’s River North. I still can’t believe this was allowed to happen.
