"Sometimes I wonder if all this coverage is because the media knows how to cover a normal problem like a sub-par candidate; they don’t know how to cover something as abnormal and unprecedented as the end of the republic. So for the most part they don’t."

Please note the wildly incorrect polling in France. No matter what the cacophony of pundits keep saying, polls are not predictive, and are never the end of the story. Organizing, volunteering, engaging in conversation, and direct action are effective tools. Let's use them here too.
BREAKING NEWS: Voters turned out in numbers not seen in decades to stop the far-right National Rally from taking power in the French National Assembly. Polls predicted a first-place finish for National Rally, which instead came in third in initial results as polling stations closed.

in case you weren’t aware of what happened the last time the Democrats dropped their candidate in July
News about Thomas Eagleton's prior treatment for depression (which included electroshock therapy) dropped in July, he withdrew August 1, and in November McGovern won only Massachusetts - far and away the worst defeat in Democratic party history

turns out the villain monologue is actually incredibly realistic
Everyone watching any Bond movie: this is utterly unrealistic, no one would stand there and say exactly how they were going to do some awful thing, the Incredibles even made a joke about monologuing. Everyone experiencing reality: Oh. Oh, I see.

Lmao they just changed the title of the piece from “Why I don’t vote” to “Why I won’t vote” rather than tell readers that the guy actually does vote

I wish folks didn't even think things like "I'm a good person". I wish folks knew that good isn't something you are. It's something you do.

The BF has often observed that the goal of a political move is the reaction you create. Something to remember when, say, the N Y T is agitating for the far more mentally and governmentally competent candidate to withdraw from the election.

About that vague announcement: Happy to announce that FF will soon be launching a sister magazine, Saros Speculative Fiction! The goal of Saros will be, of course, to publish more great fiction, but also to give those interested the opportunity to work as an editor for an issue!

I've probably reread this book and its sequels at least 5 times. They're warm, comforting stories in a lived-in world. People are mostly doing the best they can in the circumstances they have.
#Booksky Sporadic reminder that we put out a new book last week and it’s terrific! POINT OF HOPES (Astreiant #1) is available at Weightless Books as well as everywhere else and it’s an excellent read! weightlessbooks.com/point-of-hop...

At this point, I must confess, I'd be much more interested in an anthology of Trans Dangerous Visions.

Eugie Foster's work was and is a huge influence on my own, and I read her stories voraciously before I'd ever written something publishable. To say it's an honor doesn't begin to capture my feelings here. 💜
The Eugie Award finalists: “Even if Such Ways Are Bad” by Rich Larson “Falling Bodies” by Rebecca Roanhorse “The Sound of Children Screaming” by Rachael K. Jones “Tantie Merle and the Farmhand 4200” by R.S.A. Garcia “The Year Without Sunshine” by Naomi Kritzer

If "[t]his is not necessarily the time to be dangerous," why are they releasing Last Dangerous Visions at this time?
That seems the most obvious reason. But he contextualizes by saying how "a single misstep or perceived endorsement can be a terminal mistake. This is not necessarily the time to be dangerous." So, "They don't think they'd be safe being associated with this anthology. I herewith associate them."

I started my career reporting on how people were using the Internet in dictatorships, and if there's one BIG thing I learned from talking to a bunch of people who literally had served jail time for political blogging, it was "choose your battles wisely, and don't say dumb things in dumb places."
if there is one survival skill I would REALLY like everyone opposed to the fascist GOP to learn right now, it's "do not say things on the public internet that will provide authorities with useful pretenses for coming after you."

The next president appoints 2-3 Supreme Court spots. That's a huge reason I'm showing up in November. This shit's gotta stop and that's the quickest way to do that.
