I can't stop thinking about how Trump would eliminate our free, public weather service, NOAA. It's an institution that goes back 53 years and protects Americans everyday with warnings for tornados, thunderstorms and more. That's the Project 2025 plan. www.theatlantic.com/science/arch...

sorry to get on my soapbox here, but it is a real reminder that people have fought against horrible oppression and exclusion and just giving up in July is unacceptable (which is not to say we don't all need mental health breaks)

There is a lot of research on this. Learning about racism doesn't make white kids feel guilty. Here is what it does. Summary of some of the studies here: fivethirtyeight.com/features/wha...
Without even clicking the link, I’ll guess the reason — all the talk of racism makes white kids feel guilty. Again, if your kids are reading histories of slavery or segregation and identifying with the racists in the story, that suggests you’ve got your own problems to work through. Leave us out.

I'm grateful to @profsaunders.bsky.social for connecting the dots between the UK and French elections and Biden's post-debate saga and the ongoing NATO summit. ICYMI, check out her @goodauth.bsky.social post.

Breaking news: The first projections after polls closed in France’s legislative election put a leftist alliance in the lead, as the populist, anti-immigration far right falls behind and performs far below expectations.

🇲🇼 Drawing on my recent @jodemocracy.bsky.social essay, I wrote in @goodauth.bsky.social today to celebrate #Malawi turning 60. The takeaway? Malawi's democratic journey has something to teach those of us who want to resist democratic backsliding in our own countries. 💪

One consequence of the SC ruling on homelessness is that it further centers jails (esp rural jails) as THE social service provider in communities. That's... bad. AND it means that sheriffs make policy decisions abt who gets these services. Their individual attitudes matter for these decisions:
