I think the goal is to close ranks among dem leaning voters. There is some criticism abt IDF in Gaza in the US and from a dem perspective it makes sense to direct that to Netayahu personally. Wether he intends an impact on Israeli politics at all doesn't seem clear to me.
Schumer is drawing back the left wing dems for Biden, needed
for the presidential election, Schumer is doing the dirty work while Biden must continue to support Israel, clever strategy
That's exactly what I initially thought. Polls are a bit confusing right now and dems need every vote.
And frankly: Putting the focus on Bibi instead of IDF deployments as a whole seems to be a smart move. Anyone can agree on that compared to the mess in Gaza.
Early elections get called if Netanyahu’s coalition in the Knesset breaks. If the general response of them is the same one Gantz gave, it is probably actively counterproductive to early elections. Might have a different answer if public opinion swings differently.
I’m not really an expert on Israeli politics so it’s possible there are some dynamics at play I just don’t have a grasp of. In general I think most people in most countries have a “don’t intervene in our internal politics” streak though.
Schumer may have felt morally compelled to say what he’s thinking anyway, and he’s certainly not out of step with Israeli public opinion about the need for early elections
I will add, I'm all for continued jabs and pressure towards Israel, even if some carry less weight than others, if I'm wrong about this and it ends up being the start of a big wave of change, I'll be happy to be wrong
Just a last ditch attempt by the Democrats to refurbish their credentials before the election. But I think it's too late, people have seen the true face of U.S. imperialism supporting genocide and a new Zionist regime won't end the oppression of Palestine
Gotta ask what’s so surprising? At this point so many innocent people again mostly women and children who are noncombatants are unnecessarily dead and being killed in cruel ways. Rape on both sides. It should stop I believe. President Biden is still standing by Israel even though he knows it.
