It's hard to explain how widespread the repercussions of overturning Chevron deference will be. Even if you narrow the scope down to tech policy, you're left wrangling a super-explainer on a friday afternoon www.theverge.com/24188365/che...
What SCOTUS just did to net neutrality, the right to repair, the environment, and morewww.theverge.com The end of Chevron deference will touch on everything from broadband policy to climate change.

I honestly am having a hard time grasping how the likes of Microsoft, Google, et al don't understand how insanely high compute cost isn't going to pay off, especially when it doesn't result in anything that even resembles genuinely useful, let alone profitable.
I can't remember a tech campaign this relentless.

Investors just hand over the billions for a device which I still have no idea what it's even supposed to do, even after reading the article. Something something AI, projector on your hand? Except it also might literally burn a hole in your shirt. #AiPin #NYTimes

Imagine how it would be covered if Michelle Obama did this: 'Mrs. Alito ran toward their car and yelled something they did not understand. The couple continued driving, they said, and as they passed the Alito home again to exit the cul-de-sac, Mrs. Alito appeared to spit toward the vehicle.'

How does one attain this level of "can't even"?

I cannot get over how many times in recent years the Washington Post had to decide *not* to share that they knew the Alito household flew an upside-down flag in the immediate aftermath of Jan 6 before reporting it today. www.lawdork.com/p/washington...
Washington Post bombshell: Washington Post buried Alito flag story for three yearswww.lawdork.com Saturday's report raises many questions, several relating to the fact that the Post, at least passively, made the decision not to reveal this news many times since 2021.

Even by the degraded standards of today’s court, the possibility that one or more of the justices supported an effort to end the constitutional order they’ve sworn to uphold is a outrageous new low www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...
Why Was Alito Flying the Flag Upside Down After January 6?www.theatlantic.com Justice Alito blamed his wife for the incident, but he did not disavow what the symbol stands for.

Ah, these were the days. Especially miss the soft but insistent clicks your hard drive would make when you did this to it, surely wondering what it did to deserve such torture.

The problem is that you can't stop disinformation if people want to hear it. Disinformation is drama and interesting and more fun than boring reality. It's like trying to stomp out obesity by telling people not to eat fast food. They *LIKE* it, and they're gonna do it no matter what you say.
This is a brilliant cross-section of the problem, I think. Lots and lots of people are still stuck in the idea that we can short-circuit mis/dis-information itself if only we try hard enough. But, as @qjurecic.bsky.social explains, it just hasn't worked. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Cool. Not only is the #AI fad introducing moral, ethical, legal, and societal problems at every turn, as well as being annoying, with most applications producing very questionable value — now it's also exploding our power grid.

Absolutely incredible. Head of Autopilot at Tesla "said he did not know what the term 'Operational Design Domain' means. 'I've heard those words before, but I do not recall much more than that,' he said." If this doesn't exemplify incompetence, I don't know what does.

I did not expect in 2023 to see a new Miyazaki film that rivaled Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke. Damn The Boy and the Heron was good.

I think it'll be a long time before I really know how THE BOY AND THE HERON fits into Miyazaki's body of work. But on first viewing I loved it. A balance of familiar and beautiful, unique visuals. A gentle portrait of grief and self care. Not what I was expecting in the best way
