Just finished Bang Bang Bodhisattva by @briewoodfiction.bsky.social and damn, that was an excellent cyberpunk novel—so energetic it felt like the genre had just kept thriving from the '90s to today. If you hate cyberpunk, just hate its fucking guts, don't buy this book, otherwise you gotta read it

Finishing and saying goodbye to Elden Ring left a weird shaped hole in my brain (soul?), so I'm replaying Sekiro right now, trying to learn to deflect properly this time. Also, here's some Sekiro zine art from 4 years ago!

Ah, I see that people are figuring out those [number] best [media] of [period and or genre perhaps both] lists are bunk. Good talk. Carry on.

May everyone affected by Beryl rebuild necessary infrastructure quickly Can't help but think about how Puerto Rico's energy grid hasn't been rebuilt since Hurricane Maria, and the current energy company (LUMA) has routinely left PRicans without power while trying to squeeze every penny out of them
After a disastrous response to the category 1 storm, #Houston residents are left asking how the city could be so unprepared for a hurricane, and how much worse things could get. New today from Correspondent Dylan Baddour:
Hurricane Beryl Was a Warning Shot for Houstonwww.texasobserver.org The category 1 storm dealt the city disastrous damage. Houston’s first direct hit from a hurricane in decades showed how vulnerable the nation’s energy capital remains.

Really enjoying this Rite Gud conversation about the art scenes in smaller towns www.patreon.com/posts/escape... Extremely funny though that "Albany" is a small town, places like Albany and Buffalo are, fucking, megalopoli in my eyes. The "big city" here is 30k people.

I love the Ferrante books but it is quite strange to see them described this way when there is nothing autofiction about the books either in content, form, or style

Also, my latest review at Strange Horizons might pique the interest of some film scholars... but it's also worth considering as a reader & writer of SFF. There are other vocabularies for cosmic wonder in our storytelling! Keep them in mind when forging your tales. strangehorizons.com/non-fiction/...

Question: is there a way to find out how many SFF conventions have panels planned to discuss "cozy fiction"?

I mean, other than trying to look up each convention individually (I'm a latecomer to conventions, so I don't even know how many there are)

Pretty damn anxiety-inducing that the government of India can repeatedly hack civilian activists' computers and plant fake evidence, imprison them without bail, refuse medical requests if they're elderly & disabled, until they die in prison. And entirely get away with it.

I just got an email from my local greyhound rescue that Caliente, the dog track at Tijuana, is closing. If you're in southern California and thought about a retired racer this might be a great time to reach out to an adoption group. Retired track dogs make awesome pets.

easy to chalk the stuff in france up to some vague platitude about ~voting~ but it feels to me like more proof that you have to give people something to vote FOR, and that socialism remains better equipped to beat fascism than liberalism does! just one gal’s opinion
