(Also some of the nitty-gritty regulations do actually make things much more complex than they need to be rather than solving the issues they were created to solve. There is a kernel of truth in that the rules should be regularly rationalized but you know fuck that, there is no regulatory state.)
This is a huge issue for conservative upper-small to medium size business owners. They feel assaulted by harsh rules set up SOLELY to penalize them for the pursuit of happiness (wherein happiness equals dalla dolla bills yo). Big business lobbies but smallish business votes (and donates to PACs).
I’ve worked in dangerous industries my entire life. I’ve known multiple folks that died on the job or were handicapped . I’ve been through multiple OSHA reviews. They do not go too far.
