(Also some of the nitty-gritty regulations do actually make things much more complex than they need to be rather than solving the issues they were created to solve. There is a kernel of truth in that the rules should be regularly rationalized but you know fuck that, there is no regulatory state.)

This is a huge issue for conservative upper-small to medium size business owners. They feel assaulted by harsh rules set up SOLELY to penalize them for the pursuit of happiness (wherein happiness equals dalla dolla bills yo). Big business lobbies but smallish business votes (and donates to PACs).

I’ve worked in dangerous industries my entire life. I’ve known multiple folks that died on the job or were handicapped . I’ve been through multiple OSHA reviews. They do not go too far.

The urge to make an alt and go around correcting people’s apostrophe usage, inappropriately using I instead of me bc nobody explained it to them I guess, etc. until I am blocked to death.

This is still the most relevant part but I don’t know what to do with it.

Which, if you’re keeping track at home, is why Resistance posters are both the primary audience of institutional media and completely unable to lean in to meaningful lefty policy demands that, actually, most of them think are pretty good ideas.

Everyone else is sharing how this intersects w their interests so: The reason suburban moms, yogis, hippie seekers go antivax>qanon is that the basic axis of modern life is not sci/rel or rationalism/emotionality or authoritarianism/democracy. It’s anti-institutionalism exploited by authoritarians.

Update: they pulled *two* teeth, and I look like a… I look rough, and I feel like I’ve been punched in the mouth, which would honestly be cooler than: Smoking (until about 2017 I think, I’ve actually forgotten when I quit ☺️) and the pandemic destroyed my teeth and now I look like a fool.

Does anyone know how to freeze your teeth? I’m in agony until tomorrow morning when they pull my tooth but until then the only relief is ice water and it only stays cold enough for 30 seconds.
