Hyun Sook and I just saw Handsome Guys, the Korean remake of Tucker & Dale vs Evil, directed by her nephew Nam Donghyub, and he introduced us to the entire cast! It's really a mashup of the original and another cult favorite, so it's Tucker & Dale vs Evil Dead!

Hey, remember how librarians and I were warning everyone that mass book-banning is just step one of a fascist government takeover? Well, some of the same book-banning orgs we warned you about are on the advisory board for Project 2025, whose leader calls it a "second American Revolution.”

One of my favorite film festivals in the world used to be Bucheon Fantastic Film Festival. It really supported indie filmmakers making weird, personal movies. It is happening right now. This year, the theme is AI filmmaking. The poster was prompted. I am not there, and never will be again.

So many creators are bringing back their beloved characters from decades past for new stories! I'm sure many are wondering where the lovable old crank cartoonist from my early aughts webcomic Welton Colbert is now. Well, wonder no longer! He's dead.

Dear politicians: If you want us to give you more power, show us what you would do with it. Try to pass laws that would make positive change. Who cares if it will never pass? Let us see you try, and see who stops you. That is how you get passionate voters.

A few year ago, Booklist asked me to make a little comic about why I love libraries. This is what I made! I was so excited to visit my childhood librarians and show them how much they meant to me. One of them was still there and said "Wow, this is great but I don't remember you AT ALL."

This is in Idaho. This is beyond book banning. This is like the dystopian books they want to ban.
This is one of the most dystopian signs I've ever seen. Republicans are quickly turning this country into an unrecognizable freakshow.

Awwww yes! The very first copy of No Rules Tonight is on display at ALA Annual this week! So proud that my work is being shown at three different booths, even though I'm not there. I feel like Héctor Rivera when he learned his photo was on the ofrenda. #alaac24

If any pals at ALA Annual pass by the Penguin Teen booth, let me know if there's any No Rules Tonight representation! It's a fall book and this is a summer show, so I genuinely don't know if it's on display or not!

Fun fact: @ryanestrada.com ‘s “Banned Book Club,” which I proudly publish, keeps being challenged in libraries for being “pornograhic.” There is zero sex or sexual suggestion in the title. The censors are just shrieking The Magic Word and hoping it gets them what they want. This is what they do.
and even if someone thinks "well I don't like/look at porn so why should it be a priority for me?" it's important to remember that when christofascists say "porn" they also mean age-appropriate comprehensive sex education, media with queer/trans people in it, and picture books about gay penguins.

today when i asked a bookseller to carry my book, the first thing he did was look up to see how many amazon reviews it had. there were two. 😟 if you want authors to keep making the work you enjoy, rate/review their books on amazon, goodreads, b&n, etc. it makes a difference!

Super excited to see Student Ambassador prominently displayed at ALA! And excited to see @jerzy.bsky.social's Doctor Baer out in the world! Can't wait to read it!

You don't have to pretend to love a candidate! Every politician is an opponent with different interests than you who we must push to do the right thing! Choose your opponent! A dude indifferent to changing a broken system or a dude who wants desperately to break it more and hurt more people?

ME: I wish more movies had small, personal dorky stakes. A QUIET PLACE DAY ONE:
Please. Give us more small, personal, dorky stakes. In Rise of the Planet of the Apes, the stakes we follow are "I hate small tree with fake sky. I want apes to climb tall tree with real sky where my daddy used to take me." Everything else is an escalation as pursuing that gets out of hand.

The similarities did not occur to me until this exact moment, because this is just what neighborhoods look like where I live, but I wonder how many people thought the cover to Student Ambassador was intended to be a reference to Oldboy? Oops!

You know how when you unsubscribe from a mailing list, you can click "this is spam and should be reported?" Anyone know how many times it needs to be reported before it's shut down? For example if a verified hate group signed you up, you figured out how they harvest emails, and have an evil plan?

I've been talking to agent friends, and they too are grossed out by this lady. She's out of the industry. Don't let her behavior scare you off from pursuing any dreams that you have.
Over on the ex-microblogging platform, a literary agent posted details of a query she liked the idea of but gave up after reading a few pages and publicly asked for a better writer to take the idea and pitch it to her instead. So that's a sign of a healthy industry, huh?

It's adorable that Tom Hanks' two comic book movies are Road to Perdition and Here. He kicked off the Paradox Press Cinematic Universe (which continued with A History of Violence), and now he's launching the Pantheonverse (which will continue if Plan B gets their Black Hole movie off the ground)

Hyun Sook is MY hero, so it's cool to see that she is Book Riot's hero, too.

The height of comedy to me as a kid was calling 1-800-WISHBONE, then quickly handing the phone to whoever was nearest to me and saying "it's for you." They'd immediately be greeted with everyone's favorite 90's PBS show dog host excitedly saying "Helloooo! It's me! Wishbone!"

Book industry people like to refer to books by acronyms, which makes me kind of regret that my two book series' first letters are BBC and SA. The book I'm drawing's initials are GOFKS, so every time I get an email about it, it looks like editors are telling me to go eff myself.
