people who want power probably shouldn’t have it
Ken Klippenstein is streaming with George Galloway. The Young Turks are hosting RFK Jr. One ex bernie spokesperson is streaming with candace owens and another is defending Nick Fuentes. Brianna Wu is hanging with lauren southern. Maybe now is the time to re-evaluate how the left chooses celebrities.

i'm not an expert in french politics but it seems like the broadly applicable conclusion is that the best way to defeat fascism is to support the not-fascist candidate who has the best chance of winning, regardless of whether you identify as a leftist or a centrist and have to vote for the other

seems like what happened in france is that centrism and leftism each identified the other as the favorable alternative to fascism, voters who identify with either accepted this as true, and the far-right was marginalized as a result, which is... the opposite of pitting them against one another?
In France, the left coalition comes in first, Macron second, the far-right third. The best way to defeat fascism is not centrism, it’s a strong left.

OH, a big result: Marine Le Pen's *sister* has LOST her bid to join Parliament. She led 40% to 26% in Round 1. Her left opponent won by 0.5%. (Macronist, who came in 3rd, initially said she wouldn't drop out but then changed her mind. Ended up blocking Le Pen.)

there are many reasons we need to win in the fall, but one of them is that i simply am not going to abide by letting both the brits and the french lecture us
*MACRON'S GROUP PROJECTED TO WIN MORE SEATS THAN FAR RIGHT *LEFT ALLIANCE SET FOR 170-215 SEATS IN FRENCH VOTE: ESTIMATES *LE PEN'S GROUP SET FOR 110-158 SEATS IN FRENCH VOTE: ESTIMATES *FRENCH LEFT SET FOR SHOCK ELECTION VICTORY, PROJECTIONS SHOW

It’s hard to overstate what a victory for democracy it is that in France the far right lost to both the center and the left. working together to reject these fascists is key if America does the right thing we can, and will dismantle the worldwide fascist movement and destroy any chance they have had

OUTGOING Assembly for context: —Macronists: 249. (New exit polls: 150-180) —Left bloc: 131. (New exit polls: 170-220) —Far-right: 89. (New exit polls: 120-155) —LR/conservatives: 64 (Exit polls: 65-80) Today will be a record high *by far* for far-right. But also a lot less than it hoped.

JUST IN: Polls closed in France. Exit polls show surprise: —Left coalition (New Popular Front) projected first. (!) —Far-right (RN) has lost its bid to take power. Anti-RN front appears to have worked very well. —No bloc close to majority. Follow this 🧵 for results and more:

Huh, it’s as if the paper’s editors learned absolutely nothing from this.* (* of course they didn’t.)
I know they get rolled all the time but for the Times to get rolled by “actually they just want to reclaim the values of Western civilization as they see it … with larger families and fewer immigrants” is the Times putting the 14 words in the paper

as usual one of the best predictors that a "leftist" will end up going red-brown is if they tend to show exaggerated hate or disdain for middle-aged mainstream-Democratic women

I've long thought the simplest way to address this would be to release a Special Edition of the prequel trilogy with an added line in ep 2 or 3 about how Qui-Gon "stubbornly clung to the debunked midichlorian hypothesis" or words to that effect. Get Sam Jackson to ADR it or something.
some canon new Star Wars thing should address midichlorians by acknowledging them as a whole-cloth pseudoscience and gatekeeping device. qui-gon has the right kind of dadvibe to have honestly believed in it

the funny thing is theres a straight forward argument for every leftist ideology, except i guess accelerationism if you count, for voting whatever message people think they’re sending dems by not voting, the only one dems receive is “i don’t vote” and by extension ignore their policy preferences

I have been saying for at least a decade and a half that this is a major unexploited wedge issue for Democrats.
“They want to eliminate national parks” is a very simple way to get just about anyone on the Stop Project 2025 train. Are there much more glaring and life-threatening goals of P25? Yes but even your most bigoted cousin does not want to see the parks system sold for parts.
